Anyways which ever the county feels like dragging their feet on longer my P2P or P2C, I plan on going to Bills to rent theirs. I have looked at the Springfield's but i personally don't like the palm safety.

So what are you thought on this particular model? I plan on sticking .40 and up but a the same time don't plan on breaking the bank either. Any holster recommendation for this model?

Have a great Monday.

Thanks,
Tim

For your first pistol - I would not necessariy recommend a G23 - yes they are a great gun - but in my humble and informed opinion (ask around) I would stay clear of 40 for a while.

While it is a great caliber it comes with its own set of punishing consequences. 1. It is a relatively hard kicking caliber and ina G23 I personally think that it bites pretty hard. 2. Given #1 it is hard to develop FUNDAMENTAL marksmanship skills with a gun that magnifies any bad habits. 3. See #2 - a dgun you shoot most accurately and comfortably will allow you to become more confident and shoot better with a solid foundation under your feet.

I have been shooting a long time and I will tell you that I dont care for 40 all that much - I just dont get the fun factor in the additional punishment that the gun delivers. I feel that 40 is a good caliber for its purpose - but for my purposes, I prefer others that are less punishing yet offer similar charachteristics.

I shoped a long time for a 40 that I liked - the Smith M&P is about the best that I have found at least for me.
REMEMBER THE BRAVE 343 - WE WILL NEVER FORGET FDNY

Anyway, got them all cleaned up. I'll be able to sleep tonight.

Whoa whoa whoa, what have you been smoking, what reversible safety??? mag catch maybe?? hmmm ;)

Nice catch. Yes, I had safety on my mind, should have typed magazine catch.
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

I'm a fan of the GLOCK, although I don't care for their compacts and sub-compacts since they don't fit my hand. I'll take a full-size G17, G22, or G21 any day. I think the KABOOM factor is really overblown. All manufacturers advise against using reloads as a way to protect themselves against warranty claims. There have been people who've shot thousands of reloads with unjacketed lead bullets through their factory Glock barrels without any issues. It it really bothers you, an aftermarket barrel can be had for $100-$150.

Apparently the newer GLOCK barrels have better case support than the older ones, and reported KABOOMs are generally from the first and early second generation G22s (the .40S&W models were the most susceptible). GLOCK has remedied this support issue somewhat in their newer barrel designs. Of course, the majority of KABOOMS are from improperly reloaded ammo, especially stuff with a accidentally double powder charge. That'll bust almost any pistol.

Here are some interesting links:

This article does a lot to dispel the KABOOM myth regarding the G17:

As everyone else has said, try the pistols for yourself and see. The Springfield XD and XDm pistols are very well made guns in the same price range. A coworker of mine bought a Smith & Wesson M&P in 9mm and that thing was a jam-o-matic, but others speak highly of them. There's also Beretta, CZ, Sig Sauer, etc. All of them make reliable guns with good features - it's a matter of personal preference.
