ok, now I must have shot one that was a salesman sample or something, but here goes my experience with the SR9

The trigger was every bit as good as most glocks. I found the recoil handling was excellent and the gun hit where it was pointed. The fit and finish, such as it is on a plastic frame was quite good. good grip without any spots that left a need for some rasp or sandpaper work.

IT fed every thing loaded in the mag. I mean everything, from some 115 TC lead, to 148 lead, to HST to Gold dots and Golden saber reloads. shot it all well. My only complaint was that without the little follower depressor thingy, getting past 5 or 6 rounds into the mag was tough. if you had the tool it was simple, but man that thing has a stiff mag spring.

Ok, so thats my two cents, which is to say, you might find one as good as that, or maybe this one was tweaked abit, but the owner avowed no work on it and he purchased it at frontiersman.

I would also consider the 9mm Smith M&P - people love them.

Seems like most do.

From my limited experience, the trigger is horrendous on a SR9 and most I talk to seem to agree. Now you could get a trigger job done on it, but usually the SR9's appeal is its cost, and the money you save you could spend on a trigger job and possible void it's warranty, so I don't see that as an advantage. Don't over look a S&W M&P 9, one of my favorites, or a Springfield XD or XDm. And yes there is that other option, the Glock, and if that is what you want, it should serve you well for many, many years.

The best advice I got when I was looking is to look at LOTS of guns and handle them. Once I found what I wanted, I looked for a used version because I couldn't afford new. Here are some useful sites for used guns online:

to browse for used guns
http://www.elitedealseeker.com/index.cgi?category=gunstuff

to search classifieds for a specific gun
http://www.riverofguns.com/cb/index.pl?sf=59

some online retailers that seem to have good prices
http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/774
http://www.summitgunbroker.com/

I go used because I usually can't afford what I want new

Just ordered the sr9c, heard they fixed some of the problems. Hoping it will be my carry gun. We'll see how it goes, and I'll report back. For a $400 gun, I'm impressed by the safety features since I have young kids in the house...

Hey guys, Thanks so much for all the info and suggestions.
I had a chance to shoot the Ruger SR9,a glock17 and 19,and a Springfield XD (service model). The Ruger was nice but was my least favorite. The Glock and Springfield,I found very nice.It was real hard to choose, but the Glock felt the best and shot the best for me.So I got a Glock 17.I might have to get the 19 when i get my carry permit.
Thanks Again, Hoss

Got the Sr9c in today. Put 50 rounds through it right away. The extended mag would hang up the trigger. Maybe needs more break in. The standard 10rd mag functioned flawlessly. It's not my CZ 75, but it does the trick. I like the feel of it, put on the mag pinky extension for a better feel, and reversed the backstrap for a better handle. Put holes where I wanted it to, and better yet, for the size of many .380's it shoots my plentiful 9mm... So, I'll break it in some more and see, but the size is great and I'm a Ruger fan since I put my first 1000 rounds through a P89. Pleased with my purchase, YMMV. Thanks to Rick at Metro GC for a simple FFL transfer. Love that place...

++ on the glock ,ultra reliable(5000+rnds) no problems ,a 23. I've owned aP-85 for years shot over 15,000+ rounds of various pedigrees good gun ,a bit of a tank though.Ultra reliable too. Best advice is to try out what you are intested in ,different calibers ,see what is most comfortable with. Good luck with your decsion!!
