These are Browning Hi-Powers, but they are very similar. Bottom is external, top is internal.

I don't do much gun hawking here.. but hey..

As of Monday I still had one more demo Springfield Loaded Champion in stainless steel w/ night sights (PX9142L) for 675.00. This gun has a MSRP of 1011.00

This gun is in "like new" condition w/ a full lifetime warranty

I completely agree. You could run a daily / weekly report for me.

I seem to have the uncanny ability to make almost any 1911 stop working.

I know many people that have had good luck with Kimbers. I went through 3 of the things before I ponied up the bucks and bought a Wilson that has been good to me. I can recall two malfunctions with that gun. One was while using truncated ammo that Wilson did not recommend using.

I also have a Springfield GI model that has run perfect for the few rounds I have through it.
Yeah, but I shoot with THIS hand.

Here's one more vote for the Taurus. You just can't beat it for the money. I have been extremely happy with mine thus far.

Boy, it has been a while since I saw you. When did you pick that Taurus 1911 up? Last time we were at a gun show together, I was the one showing interest in them. In addition to the "when," how much did you end up paying? PM me if you'd rather.

Thanks.

I've had it about a month. Paid $550 at Wolf's Den in Hugo. Saw it for $525 a week later at Gunstop, but I'm not too upset because they threw in a free Winchester hat with Wolf's Den on the back...and I wear it proudly. If you're still in the market for one, bear in mind that there is a new version with a Picatinny rail, if that's of any interest to you. I'm not interested in mounting crap to mine so I got the sans rail version for the more authentic 1911 look.

I never thought I could effectively conceal a monster of a gun like this, but have found myself carrying it regularly in the two holsters I have for it: an OWB leather jobber from High Noon Holsters and a Blackhawk Serpa. Needless to say, my XD has been very lonely as of late and I finally understand what those old, salty military bastards were saying about Tupperware guns and puny 9mm. ;)

I may be military,
I may be a bastard,

I've heard good things about the Taurus 1911. The only negative is that the finish isn't the best which isn't a huge concern considering the price. How is yours holding up so far?

My list has changed since I started this thread. Initially, Kimber and Springfield were not really on the radar, but they have now moved into the top spots due to everyones suggestions. I keep staring at that Springfield squibjoe posted.

hammAR is correct. 1911's are kind of like women.

Dean - Thanks for the tutorial on internal and external extractors.

jac714 - Thanks for the offer to shoot your Kimbers. I may take you up on it.

There are some things in which mere mortals should not meddle :-)

I also have a Taurus PT 1911 and like it. HEck, HammAR borrowed mine and shot steel with it. I didn't hear him complaining much more than normal :-)
