Thought I'd toss in a pic of one of my Contenders...this is my regular deer hunting gun... 14" Hunter Barrel in 45-70, with factory loads, it's capable of 1.25" 3 leaf clover groups at 75 yards, with a field rest ( anything solid to rest against ), it's capable of tighter groups than that off the bench, or with handloads... this is kind of a cruddy pic, as it was taken after a fresh oiling, & before wiping down for storage, but you can see the 2-7 Burris posi lock scope & "pack" grips & fore end... this one is a boomer with handloads...

I'm starting to feel like a bit of a pansy, with my puny little .454 Casull, in a Freedom Arms Mdl. 83....

IRON... I wouldn't worry about that... I'm guessing in a few weeks when I get my Ruger Alaskan 454 Casull off lay away, it may turn out to be one of my new favorite "cannons"

I am so jealous. My puny little .357s seem kinda cannon-like among mere mortals, but not in this company. But what the heck, I still like to look at their picture. :)

Hey MWM!!! Am I correct that you have an Automag V (chambered in 50AE, I assume?), plus an Automag IV, (have heard of the 10mm magnum cartridge with Tanfoglios, but NEVER suspected that Automag had made one) and an Automag II??

I owned one of the original .44 Automags back in the mid 1970's, but I could never keep the #%$&^$&^#% gun fixed, and it kept breaking bolt rotation pins. Now those guns are $2200 safe queens, because they do break, and there are a limited supply of spare parts. Do you shoot yours regularly, or are yours more or less collectibles too?

P.S. You can make all the 10mm magnum cases you want - That case is made simply by cutting the bottleneck off 30 Remington brass...

PAT... I never fault a good 357... a 4" Stainless GP-100 was my 1st handgun, & still the one that I likely "use" the most... it is my go to gun for camping & hiking, & my back up for hunting... around here, it's still plenty 'o gun... ;)

SAM... I have a "2,3,4,& 5"... would love to come across a working or repairable "#1" ( that I could afford... you don't want to part with one do you ;) ) closest I've gotten to a "#1" is a box of original 44 Automag ammo I found at a show once, that I bought at some outragous price... I have seen the 44 Automags for sale at the auction sites, but as both a shooter & a collector, I have not been able to make that investment, without cutting deeply into new "shooter" purchases...

I have / do shoot all of them, but have shot the "3" & "5" the most ( 3 is in 30 carbine, 5 is in 50 A.E. ), because of the factory ammo, the "2", ( shoots 22 RFM ammo ) I purchased around a year ago, & have not even shot it... yet, I will... the "4" I've shot several hundred rounds through it,but have less time to reload than is ideal, so I find that I shoot factory ammo & save the brass, leading me to shoot the "4" the least, as I've never found factory ammo for the 10 mm Magnum... BTW... I'd like to find a "4" in 45 Win Mag, which it seems like most were made in that caliber, but I chose the 10mm, since it's a true "4" or 40 cal.

the "5"is a handfull to shoot, it's way lighter than the LAR Griz, or the Desert Eagles, the kick & muzzle blast are pretty crazy... part of the reason I chose the "5" over the D.E. is I can shoot cast bullets in the "5" & I have some heavy cast bullet molds for my Marlin Lever conversion that will really open your eyes coming out of the "5"...

HEY, BTW... SAM... The quality of your pics are awesome.. thumbs up...

the factory ported barrel & slide make the big 50's recoil more managable, but the muzzle blast more severe...

I don't think anyone would call a 357 puny, just in this company it is a little small.

My main hunting handguns are the 375JDJ T/C Contender made by JD Jones at SSK Industries, this one uses a 220 gr. Hornady FP at 2300 fps using a 444 Marlin case necked down to .375 and using 52-54 gr. of AA2520 rifle powder for deer, bigger animals get the 270 and 300 gr. bullets....my other main handgun is the Savage Striker in 308, 3 shot bolt action pistol, and both of these have scopes and are good to 200 yards or better if needed.......

How is the balance on the Striker?
Defend yourself.
Defend your family.
