I handled one of them a few years ago ... VERY nice! Woulda bought one shortly thereafter, but they weren't to be found.
Now I got a pair of S&W's.
And yes ... I agree ... it is "cheating" ... I keep tellin' myself "well, they got 8rd to survive 'til I gotta do a standing reload" ... not good odds fer 'em, but hey! ... it's somethin'!

I initiated into handgun culture by Jeff Cooper's column in Gun's & Ammo, so my first gun had to be a 1911. I owned and carried nothing else for about five years until I finally decided that a manual safety, like walking and chewing gum at the same time, was too complicated for me, so I switched over completely to DAO revolvers.
I'm happy with my choice, but I do miss that nice flat shape under my belt and that single action trigger!

keep in mind, anytime ya put yer hand in front of the muzzle, yer violating rule #1 (and at any USPSA/IDPA match, ya'll be DQ'd) ...
If I do any such thing, it's most like at 1:05 - 1:09.
Not all 1911's are created equal. Some will only feed if ya "slingshot" 'em. IMHO, this is the sign of a poorly fitted/finished bbl and/or finished feed-ramp. Regardless, if ya got a 1911 that don't suffer loadin' slow 'nuff to be sure ya got a cartridge in the chamber, w/o any other reliable indicator, ya don't know. Also, if fer some reason (like shootin' a string of fire in competition, 'n needin' to do 'nother right away), the pistol's been fired, and without otherwise clearing and/or reloading, and no reliable indicator, ya wouldn't know if there's a cartridge in the chamber, 'er not.
I 'spose if ya've got the grip of a 3yr-old girl, FCS might help ... maybe.

I jest now got done talkin' to a cowerker 'bout new grips fer his 1911 ... and figured I'd jest as well post 'bout 'em here ...
Ya can buy 'em from MidwayUSA ... but it only takes 2 - 3wk fer a custom order ... and this guy's absolutely top-notch ... did 'bout 4 custom orders myself (including a new one jest a few weeks ago ... I chose jest 'bout everythin' short of "engraving" and it was still under $80) ... and 'nother 3 sets from Midway (most of these are 'round $60).

Browning is coming out with an 80% scale version in .22lr available after the first of the year. That looks pretty cool, and might even be made out of real metal.
Yep saw that the other day on one of the gun shows. 80% of full size and a compact for CC wonder how many CC a .22? If it was me buying I would want it the same size as a 9mm

I own several -- I grew up a Glock guy and that's what I carried when I worked in law enforcement. My grandfather, who taught me to shoot, was an old school revolver guy. First semi-automatic I shot was at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy
Now I mostly have 1911s -- 3 Kimbers (in all three sizes), two Springfields (Milspec and a parkerized TRP), and a few others.
My Kimber SIS (4.25 model) or the fullsized Springfield TRP are usually what I carry... b
