Well it depends on which .38 you're talking about. .38 specials use .357-.358" sized projectiles. .38-40 and some others use a .401 sized bullet. Some old rounds were in the middle.

Surely we're not talking about the ubiquitous .38 Special, but some other arcane .38 caliber cartridge. :P :hide:

And here we have a showcase for the deficiencies of American education. :P

.65 millimeters = 0.0255905512 inches. The .38 special is clearly bigger, as you have now admitted. I was right all along and .38 is better. :P

Good thing that guy in AZ had a 9mm or someone might have gotten hurt.

Before this gets out of hand. A 38 Special is not 38 caliber, it is 35 caliber. This is why you can fire 38 Special loads through a pistol chambered for 357 Magnum.

IIRC a longtime ago some marketing person at S&W decided that a 38 caliber pistol sounded better than the 35 caliber they came out with, thus the 35 caliber 38 Special was born.

And just for argument sake .357" = 9.0678mm.
I will never apologize for being an American.

I think it's actually the .357, but I do recall the .22 ranking unusually high probably because it is so common. I'm trying to find a citation...

Well, if you wanna get all serious here instead of discussing how much I rule, a quick look at the Hodgdon's online loading manual shows .38 special using .357, .358, and .359 bullets and 9mm Luger using nothing but .355. We still have a difference of .002 and I am still right. .38 Special is bigger than 9mm. :P

Which is .0678mm more than 9mm. Which means you also say it's bigger.

Guys, why are you starting off like you are somehow disproving what I said and then confirming my statement?

Certainly someone here owns a micrometer. Post pics.

I do, but I don't have any .38 caliber ammo.

Sadly my .375 H&H with 300 gr solids is smaller and therefore no match for .40 or a .45....
