And here we have a showcase for the deficiencies of American education.macphisto wrote:That .65mm difference doesn't exist. Both cartridges use .35 cal projectiles. Yes, the fact that it's called .38 Special is confusing. The actual difference in diameter is about two thousandths of an inch, depending on the bullet. I can't tell if you're confused, or just trolling. Maybe both?

.65 millimeters = 0.0255905512 inches. The .38 special is clearly bigger, as you have now admitted. I was right all along and .38 is better.![]()

Don't they something about .22lr killing more people each year in the US than any other round?
Rip Van Winkle wrote:Before this gets out of hand. A 38 Special is not 38 caliber, it is 35 caliber. This is why you can fire 38 Special loads through a pistol chambered for 357 Magnum.
IIRC a longtime ago some marketing person at S&W decided that a 38 caliber pistol sounded better than the 35 caliber they came out with, thus the 35 caliber 38 Special was born.
Which is .0678mm more than 9mm. Which means you also say it's bigger.Rip Van Winkle wrote:And just for argument sake .357" = 9.0678mm.
a quick look at the Hodgdon's online loading manual shows .38 special using .357, .358, and .359 bullets and 9mm Luger using nothing but .355. We still have a difference of .002 and I am still right. .38 Special is bigger than 9mm.![]()
