Good question Tim. I like the thought of having interchangeable back straps. In the past when shooting it seemed like I was always concentrating on my grip. With the xd, I didn't find myself thinking about how I was holding the gun. Obviously it might be different when I am shooting them, but I will find that out. I am relatively new to the handgun world. I have a S&W 357, but not a semi-auto. Yet! :D

I like the "Yet!" part! Let us know how the search goes, and what you decide on...

Well, the search should be over soon. I am meeting up with JJ on Tuesday to do some shooting. I hope to have my new choice in possession within the next week or so.

I would second tim's point about thinking about the M&P...But,

One thing to consider is the grip angle of the glock vs the XD. Some people naturally roll their wrists forward and therefore like the glock setup, others find it annoying (like myself) since naturally you point the thing at the ceiling.

Try this:

Grab the gun in your right hand, making sure you have a solid, comfortable grip. Then with your eyes closed, bring the gun up, bring the left hand in and make a two handed grip, and aim (you have your eyes closed still).

Now open your eyes.

If the gun is pointing relatively at the target, it's a good fit. If it's pointing at the ceiling lights,.................it's a glock. (although, you might find that the glock fits you better, you just have to try it out).

If you hold the Glock sideways you will be ok or just get the M&P.

It really doesn't matter which gun you pick. Practice and you will adjust to the gun. Then you will become an "XD Guy" or a "Glock Guy" with the other brand suddenly becoming greatly inferior.

+1

With that being said, Glocks are the only real option.

I hate to say it but Joe is right. I was a 1911 guy then a Glock guy then a M&P guy now a CZ guy.

Well, Iam still an FNG here but a long time shooter and would like to say that the Sig P239 in 40S&W is one heck of a weapon. Night sights, anti snag melting if you wish. But out of the box one incredibly accurate and easy to maintain gun

I appreciate all of the input. The xdm seems to be the one (out of what I held so far) that felt the best. I am leaning heavily towards one. That being said, I still have to make a final decision. Buying fishing gear is so much easier!

Unbiased opinion? No such thing my freind. But good biased opinions and advise can be waded through on this forum and once and a while you can get a good nugget of such.
