OK I narrowed it down. If I could only have one I would want a Glock 7 with XS big dot Birdman sights. It would make traveling for work much easier.

"If you only had one .... what would be?"

It would be like 25 years ago. A slow start, when I had only one. At that time a S&W Model 39. 9 mm semi-auto DA/SA. Would I buy that as my only gun today. No.

Today it would be a 4 " 1911 (Commander) 45 ACP.

But, a tough choice between that and the 38 Special 642/442 SW I mainly carry. (Oh, that could be my wife's one. And then the grandkids may each need "one" too.)

One is just not enough. It is only a start.
Because I care, I carry.

XD 45 Compact. I only have one gun and that's what it is :)

With 10 round magazines you have an easily concealable gun. With 13 round magazines you have a full size range gun.

Yeah, it's .45 but you know that's what you really want and if you don't spend all your money on multiple guns you can afford ammo ;)

I'll admit, I'm a convert. Forget what I said about 40 cal. You've got to have at least one .45, even if it's your only one.

Only one?

If I can have only one, a commander sized alloy framed 1911 in .45 ACP would be my choice followed closely by the Browning High Power in 9mm or the S & W 442.

It would be an incredibly difficult choice, I don't think I could make it personally.

Although MNGlockers GP 100 has an awful nice trigger I still think I would prefer the 1911, if I was more interested in a field gun it would definitely be the 686.

Too many different roles for a handgun in my life to limit it to one. :o

You wink, but you are 100% spot on. Buy an affordable, reliable gun and spend your money on ammo, shooting, and training.

I have yet to find the one gun that would answer this question for me.

I'll always have at least two since I have two hands and you'll need to pry them from my cold, dead hands.

I absolutely love my P7 M8. In fact that gun would be high, if not on top of my list, now that I think about it.

I wish I would have bought an M13 when I had the chance years ago.
Yeah, but I shoot with THIS hand.

1) Glock 19
2) HK USP9 Compact
3) Sig P228
4) Beretta PX4
5) S&W MP9 Full size
6) HK P30 (I would have to handle and shoot one )
7) Sig P250 (I would have to handle and shoot one )
8) CZ sp01
9) Walther P99
10) Springfield XD9 Service

Now on to the narrowing process.

Okay, time to narrow down some of my choices... I spent most of yesterday out shopping guns on my list. My experience handling and tinkiering said guns yielded some results. I am now able to rule out 4 guns form the list.

1) Walther P99

I just wasn't fond of the ergonomics of the Walther.

2) Sig P250

$650 and it only ships with (1) mag. Not to mention it felt awkwards in my hand.

3)Beretta PX4

Wholly Batman...just a little to futuristic for me. It also felt awkwards in my hands.

4) CZ sp01

Heavy and hard to find parts and accesories for it. Probably not the best choice for an only gun.

The search continues...

You know it is funny that I sit here and I think of the list that I put together and I was remissin mentioning that ANYTHING from CZ would bejust fine with me if I could have just one gun - they are flawless for what they are.

I would put the PCR Compact up there on the list as almost the perfect carry gun. The SP01 as a Perfect Range Gun or the 85 oh hell all of them are great.

Glock 19

Next question.

(substitute a 3" GP100 if you're a revolver guy).

Seems to be the overwealming choice here and G19 is THE Gun in Iraq for Contractors. Easy to carry - big fuel tanks available - About as reliableas you can reasonably expect from a small machine.

I am starting to think that the G19 is the winner.
