The BHP was a very advanced weapon when it was introduced in the 1930s. Lots of military forces and police forces around the world carried them for many decades afterwards. It is interesting that the BHP was used by soldiers on both sides during WWII. The Allies set up production in Canada and the Axis took over production in Belguim.
When my dad was a detective in Chicago, he used to carry a 9mm BHP. He bought it in '65 when most cops were still carrying revolvers. When he passed away, I got it. It is a wonderful gun. It has a staggered magazine that holds 13 rounds. It's extremely reliable, accurate, and easy to take down to clean. I have personally shot about 1000 rounds through it and never had a problem. I never disconnected the magazine safety because the trigger pull doesn't bother me. It used to be my CC weapon, but I now just keep it for home defense after I got my Springfield XDsc. To me, the XDsc feels more ergonomic and it is far easier to conceal IWB. It is just as reliable, accurate, and even easier to take down and clean.
If you like to collect and shoot classic firearms, I strongly recommend getting a BHP if you can afford it.
