My apologies to the OP as the thread drift herein was primarily my fault. So . . .
I've seen a couple for sale posts elsewhere for norincos that the seller claims are stainless steel. Pics show a silver colored gun. Wondering though whether such a beast really was manufactured by Norinco or whether instead, someone could strip the bluing, polish the parts, and create a stainless look-alike.

Let's pick this thread up again.
Picked up a nice norinco this week. Early production, shiny blued slide. (For anyone wondering about the question I posed above on finishes for these, they came in blued, parkerized, or nickel finishes.) The gun is in pieces in my basement at the moment for a thorough inspection and cleaning so no pics yet. I'm curious, however, about the extractor on this gun so here is my question for you 1911 guys.
Are there 1911 government models that have different length extractors? The extractor on this norinco seems a little long in that it protrudes slightly out of the back of the slide. It may not be stock, but I don't know if many norincos were like this or if this is odd. The firing pin block fits into the groove on the extractor in such a way that the rear of the extractor sticks out a little. The tooth of the extractor still has enough area to easily grab the rim of a cartridge. I could pull the extractor from my colt to measure and compare but I thought I would ask here first. Do extractors have to be fitted like many other 1911 parts? If so, any pointers on how best to do that?

Should have just went to the google to start with. I think I figured out the answer to my long extractor problem. Plenty of ways to fit an extractor so that goes on the to-do list for this norinco along with adding some other goodies.

It sounds like it is long out the back. Right? It just needs to be sanded down to blend with the slide.
For fitting an extractor, do a little research on under-cutting and rounding the bottom - two things that get skipped on many guns.

Yep, that is part of what I need to do. I'm sure the extractor is an after market. Maybe an ed brown. Impossible to tell. Best guess is based on reports I've read of ed browns being slightly longer than standard colts. I plan to check and fit the claw first now that I've done more reading of extractor perfect fit. She holds the cases fine, but I'm concerned it may be too much on the casing instead of the rim. Need to do more research and inspection/measuring before I start filing the extractor or ordering a new colt one.
