Smith and wesson M&P compact 9mm

Hey guys,
You are probably sick of hearing from me but, I am gonna keep posting any way. I am curious what you guys think of the M&P compact 9mm. I really liked the feel also would love to meet up with someone who has one and is close to the princeton area so I try one out.
Thanks

I'd probably go with Glock or Springfield XD before I went to the M&P line of semi-auto pistols.

I had the chance to shoot one at a recent class I was at. We were messing around with one on a lunch break. I was extremely surprised by the accuracy. We were able to consistently hit standard steel silhouette targets standing at 75 yards. The ergonomics and comfort were excellent as well. Can't comment as to long term durability and reliability as I don't own one.

I'd take the M&P 9c or Glock 26 over anything XD sub. I own both the MP9c and 26. The ergos on the M&P are tremendous.

I've got a full size M&P, and I love it. I tried Glocks, I tried XDs, and in the end, there was really no comparison in terms of how it felt in my hand, or how it shot.

I am a Glock guy.. it was my M&P that Paul and I were shooting.. its got a good feel in the hand, extremely accurate and easy to control.

I heard it will wear faster than a Glock, but overall it is a very nice gun.

I use to have an M&P 9 Pro Series 4.25" w/ NS. One of the new ones with the "better trigger reset". I still couldn't get past that mushy reset.

Shooting single shots was fine although it shot to the left a little. Ergonomics are good but I wouldn't rate them any better than a Glock 19. You couldn't get as high of a grip on the M&P as you can on a glock either.

I did end up trading it at a big loss for a Glock 19 with an EXO coated slide. I like your idea - meet with someone who has one first, and get at least 200 rounds out before deciding.

I carry the M&P 9. I competed with the M&P Pro 9. I couldn't speak more highly of either gun.

Reset on these is achieved simply by the trigger bar sliding back over the sear. It can be made very crisp if the sear is properly angled so the trigger bar snaps back onto the sear instead of sliding back on to it.

I've got an early 40c that was made when s&w was rushing some product to market. Had the soft mag release issue but I fixed that with a stronger spring I made from larger gauge piano wire I bought at a local hardware store. Gun has been a joy to shoot. Bought a 9mm barrel for her as well so I could have both calibers in one platform. Probably the only complaint I could raise is the price of magazines. S&w really sticks it to us on those.

Eta: one more complaint is that s&w won't sell factory sears for these. No reasonable reason exists. They just stopped selling them about 4 years ago. A company called apex was selling quality drop in ignition parts to fill the void though.

Can you tell me the difference in recoil between say a glock 26 and the M&PC both 9mm? Is one less than the other one?

I had analyzed every possible handgun and I was convinced that an M&P 9 Compact was my conceal gun. So I went to Bills and shot a M&P 9 compact and an M&P 9. I liked the M&P 9 Much better - I then compared the M&P 9 and an xdm 9 - and guess what (As a XDM guy - ) I liked the XDM better.

I was kind of disappointed.

I ended up buying a RUGER SR9C - Which I love.

I will most likely still someday get an XDM 9 3.8 Compact - I shoot 40's now.

Recoil depends on various circumstances. If I had to say one has "less" perceived recoil than the other, it would be M&P because of the interchangeable grip that bulges into my hand better.

I used to take family and friends and have them compare full size, compact and subcompact models of Glock, XD and M&P when I owned all of them. None of them had the same response to how the firearm feels. I wish I still owned all of them and ran classes and charged people for it as this question comes up way too many times.

TO each his own, but I carry an M&P full size and it feels like the grip was custom made for my hand. Glocks feel like I'm holding a piece of lumber in comparison. That's just me though.
