It still sleighs me that people are comparing a body style to a brand....

What's a better vehicle, a Toyota or a pickup truck?

Probably my least-favorite aspect of the "gun community." That, and the caliber wars.

I'm not sure who is doing that. The question was your favorite polymer pistol vs. your favorite 1911.

I don't know. Depends on whose body we're talking about. 8-)

Ask some troops who have had to use it if they would like a larger caliber in the caves of Afghanistan....

I have had bad luck with 1911's. I have had good luck with glocks. I have been all over the world shooting and hate to say it glock is the most popular handgun that I have encountered.

Which is better? The one you personally like and shoot best period.

I've owned both. I shoot both well. The Glocks & 1911 I've owned were all utterly reliable (the Glocks immediately, the 1911 after ~1000 rounds w/no work done to it...).

So long as its been broken in & shown to be reliable, I'd take either. Of course, I'll never be in that situation, and if I were, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't turn down any handgun shoved into my fist... If I were smart, I'd only need one mag as well - just enough to "acquire" a reliable rifle & ammo... 8-)

1911's are great guns if you like them and can find one that works all of the time for you and the ammunition that youa re chosing to use. Again, we all have to remember that the 1911 was designed for one thing - that is shooting 230gr BALL.

The new Poly 9mm's are designed very well and are the evolution of the pistol to the state of the art in machining and materials sciences. It is hard to argue with a Glock, but then again it is hard to argue with a 1911.

As long as you find that either or are reliable enough for you and your level of comfort and situation, it is hard to go wrong with either. I simply prefer my old G17 with well over 180,000 rounds through it - it is properly maintained, cleaned and inspected. I have total confidence in its ability to serve me when the time comes and if there is a problem, I know how to resolve a malfunction like it is second nature.

Why did they replace the 1911 with the M9? Because it's better....

Why did they replace the .45 ACP with 9 MM?....Because it's better.

Why do people compare the 1911 to the glock? Because they ain't better..... :didntdoit: :goofydance: :tantrum: :high5:  :secret: :type:

The ones I have spoke with would just like to have something other than ball ammo.
