Stopping power is one thing... the ability to put all your rounds center mass under pressure is another... reliability is yet another thing, but it is the point of this thread... I'm sure there are plenty here that have shoot a number of guns, but I'm also sure some of those have not shoot a few guns because they "don't like plastic", etc, etc, etc... most of us have read those threads and I will not go into much detail because I don't really care about bad mouthing any guns for having "plastic"!!!

I don't want to go down through all the guns I've shoot over the years, in the military and out... 1911 are good guns, but I'm not going to carry a gun I'm not 100% sure will fire every time I pull the trigger... and Glock's and Springfield XD are at the top of my list of semi-auto handguns.

Why did they replace the 1911 with the M9? Because it's better....

Why did they replace the .45 ACP with 9 MM?....Because it's better.

Why do people compare the 1911 to the glock? Because they ain't better..... :didntdoit: :goofydance: :tantrum: :high5:  :secret: :type:

Hmmm?? It had nothing to do with stream lining with other Nato countries and carrying more rounds?

As for R. Lee Ermy remember where he gets his paycheck from - GLOCK, unfortunately he has badmouthed the most popular calibers in the Glock line - 45's are not good sellers.

There are only a couple of Police Agencies that are using the 45 GAP - NYS Police is one of them, and yet caliber is not making up for marksmanship.

Although, the guns are 100% reliable from all reports.

The ones I have spoke with would just like to have something other than ball ammo.

Well, if we are stuck using ball ammo it makes infinitely more sense to use a larger caliber. They all fall to ball!!! (with something larger than a 9mm)

"They All Fall to Ball" yup.... They do even in 9mm eventually.

Everyone wants the magic bullet - there isnt one... not in a pistol caliber.

No magic about a bigger bullet doing a similar speed doing more damage. Give me a .40 or .45 with ball ammo over a 9mm with ball ammo any day for close quarter combat.

HK usp any of the top 3 calibers ........ I shoot outside 10-20 below zero and 80-100 above.... rain ... dirt

I dont own a glock... nothing against them either they are fine pistols.... I love my sigs too ... and I have a colt 1911 ....
but the HKs are the best choice. I will take a AK and an old Remington 870 along with a Randal K bar

If I was going to be dropped off in a desert or secluded environment and had to pick a handgun that was going to be used as a primary instead of a rifle(for the sake of the question) I would take a Hk 45 or a 3rd gen or older Glock 17. Either of these have proven reliable. I would not take a 1911 for two reasons. They do tend to be generally a little finicky sometimes. I understand that people will start bringing up full customs and certain examples that have proven reliable. I understand. Another thing and this is were I think the Hk 45 shines is maintenance. The round intervals till springs or parts have to be replaced would be an advantage. Caliber really does not matter these days anymore and I do relize that
for military use fmj would be employed.

I will take a Glock in 9mm and you can keep the ball ammo as I would like something in a H.P. flavor.... thank you.
