pocket revolver with a nice trigger recommendation?

Postby DavidN2 on Sun Aug 07, 2011 8:19 am

I know this is really subjective, but are there any pocket revolvers that have a nice trigger out of the box?

I'd like something like a Glock trigger.

I had a Taurus 9mm revolver years ago I bought used and the trigger was real nice. Not sure if it was worked on? But I got rid of it as the moonclips were kind of a pain. Should have kept it I guess. :(

Other than that I've owned S&W's and Rugers and I never liked the triggers. And it seems most of the gunsmiths didn't really want to mess with the triggers on carry guns.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

IF you like Glocks, any of the Glock sub-compacts are easy to reduce the trigger pull. Most pocket pistols have very hard pull DA triggers (ie S&W 642, S&W Bodyguard 380). Kahr makes the best DA trigger I have seen in their PM line. Metal triggers with no creep. I pocket carry the PM 45 (45 ACP that fits in your pocket!). Also the Kel-tec PF9, Ruger LCP and Kahr PM 9 are worth a look The 1911 officer models are very large and heavy for pocket carries but you can customize their triggers all day long.

+1 on the LCR

check out any j-frame and have a gunsmith smooth the trigger for not much money.

+1 on the Ruger LCR. It's got some kinda new trigger action design involving cams. I've pulled the trigger on a couple of them in stores, and I think it's pretty darn good. Google "ruger lcr trigger" and read the rave reviews.

Well, the OP said he doesn't care for Ruger or Smith & Wesson revolvers, so I'm assuming he means the LCR and the 442/642. If he's referring to Smith's and Ruger's other wheelgun offerings, then perhaps a test run of both of those models is in order.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any DAO revolver, regardless of how nice the trigger is, that's going to feel like the striker-fired "safe action" trigger on a Glock.

Who knows, perhaps Gaston Glock will release the first polymer-framed, polymer-cylindered revolver, complete with "safe action" trigger!

The simple answer is none.

A revolver trigger has to cam back the hammer and rotate the cylinder, a Glock trigger moves a firing pin/striker back a teeny bit and then it's done. It's possible to improve a revolver trigger a great deal, but it still has to do too much work

This one made me spit a little coffee. Nice trigger and Glock aren't two things that are normally spoken in the same phrase.

I have an LCR, it has a better trigger than my 642.

Get a new Taurus 85 .38spcl., trigger just as good as your old one and no moon clips.

What is a nice trigger on a defensive pistol?

Especially a pocket pistol. Why? Tinker with something reliable and screw it up. Leave it alone.

It's pretty irritating how much better the Taurus 85 triggers are than the S&W j-frames out of the box. It shouldn't be that way.

The best pocket automatic trigger I have found so far is the Sig p238. Second place is the Diamondback.

I think this is the 5th recommendation for the LCR. It's my daily carry. Outstanding trigger. And it gets better over time.

Make that 6. I'm an S&W snob but I still love the DA trigger on the LCR.
