Why is a third choice needed?

i'm with you on this one. why do we need a third choice?

mine are: FNP-40 in the recent past, lately SigSauer TacOps 5" 1911. and if i must include a third, Taurus 357 6" barrel. not sure the model designation, i think it's a 626 (it came from my dad)

I put 10-15k rounds down range with glocks, but 1911 and P7 are both around maybe 200 per year.
Were I to switch to a j-frame, I wouldn't be able to hit ****.

I don't carry my J-Frame very often, but I always put at least 50-100 rounds through it whenever I go to the range. Adequate practice with what you carry (or might carry) is always going to be necessary. Another important part of the equation is practicing techniques that are not equipment-specific - that is, they will work with all your guns. Proper trigger control, sights picture is going to work with anything you shoot, if applied consistently.

Consider that the gun you fight with might not be your gun. For example, you might be given a gun by a good guy (the only time I ever deployed a backup gun was to arm an off-duty cop, who wasn't carrying, so he could back me up), or take a gun from an adversary. You could be on vacation and have to acquire a gun locally.

If I have my choice I choose the gun I am best with. Hopefully if I lose mine I will find another one just like it. If I lose mine, things aren't looking real sunny. I have yet to find a reason to carry anything else.

I have three guns. S&W 642CT, Ruger LCPCT, and S&W M&P 9c.
But, LCP most of the time, because it is most practical to carry.
