How do you carry spare mags

I rarely carry at all, but when I do, it's a Glock 26 in the pocket of my big puffy coat, no spare magazine. During the warmer months when a light jacket (or no jacket) is worn, it's an IWB more toward the back, and again, no spare.

Quite frankly this topic has gotten way off topic.

SO

Look - I know that you are going to do what you are going to do and that is up to you - it is advisable to carry a spare mag -because there are a couple of problems that you cannot solve without an extra mag -

1. Malfunctions - they happen and there are some that need a new mag to be solved.
2. Small Cap Autos - they run dry fast
3. Mags can go bad without any prior notice and can cause malfunctions.

Most gunfights are going to begin and end with the ammunition that you have in the gun to begin with - the likelyhood of running out of ammo is low - but a few additional rounds to me is just good sense and extra insurance.

There is no such thing as "off-topic" on an internet message board. :)

Regarding the spare mag thing, I don't think anyone will disagree that it's a good idea, for LOTS of reasons, to carry one or more spares. The six 5-day classes I've taken at Gunsite, and the several I've taken at Storm Mountain and Farnam's school have taught me that. I agree with all of your reasons, and you've listed them nicely.

I simply choose not to carry a spare, just like I usually choose not to carry a weapon at all. I'm just not a "carry" sort of guy, most of the time. My prerogative, and still a damn sight better than what most people do.

I carry two mags on my weak side. And, I carry one mag on my strong side right in front of my holster at about 3 o'clock. My holster is at 4 o'clock. The reason I carry this way is that if my weak hand becomes injured I can drop my mag, holster my gun, grab the mag on my strong side (with bullets facing back towards the holster) and insert it into my gun, bring my gun out and tap it and I'm back in the game.

The best reload is a second gun. So, there your answer: I carry my spare mag in my spare gun.

When I get all "tactical", I go Highland: drop-leg holsters, kilted!

I carry a spare gun and an extra mag either in a OWB holder or pocket holster.

For Highland carry, I thought it would be Smartcarry! "Is that a gun under your Kilt or are you just happy to see me!"

Srigs ...

Just curious, is there such a thing as a pocket holster for mags? I'm thinking with a rough exterior so that you can retrieve your mags but there so that you don't print.

Just curious

Look at my pocket carry holster and you will see a couple options. I just made a few today
for a P32/P3AT and PF9.
