For actually hunting, my Super Blackhawk is about perfect.
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

Well I think I have decided to go big or go home! 460xvr or nothin'! I am officially in the market, I like the multi load options and the beefy frame should be able to hold up to anything I can handle. So if ya see anything out there (preferably used) keep me in mind. Thanks for all the input as well.

I am a big fan of the older S&W revolvers, but for a hunting handgun, I prefer the Ruger over a S&W. I have a scoped Super Redhawk, a scoped Redhawk, open sights on a Blackhawk and Super Blackhawk. Like them all, but the Super Blackhawk with the square back trigger guard can bite the fingers sometime. For the Rugers, my first pick is the Redhawk because of the way the scope mounts a bit forward on the barrel. The Super Redhawk also has a solid scope mount, but scope is mounted farther back and can interfere with cocking the hammer. Same would be true for either the Blackhawk or Super Blackhawk when mounting a scope. This is probably a non factor for most, but with gloves and firing a DA in SA mode, I like the hammer to be as accessible as possible.

Better go with the Ruger!

With that reasoning, better go with the S&W because these Rugers did not fair too well.

So rugersol, what is your point? Things can break, especially when encouraged by stupid acts by the shooter.

As I mentioned before, I like both but prefer the Ruger for hunting, especially when mounting a scope.
