Ruger Blackhawk .357/9mm worth it?

Postby photogpat on Thu Nov 17, 2011 12:50 pm

I have a chance to buy a Ruger Blackhawk, used, in the convertible .357/9mm config. Its in decent enough shape, and the other party wants $350.

Deal or no deal? Not being familiar with wheel guns what should I be looking for? There not much wear on the cylinder line, and the lock up seems tight (I think).
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

for that price it isn't even a question. buy it, get bored with it and then sell it to me :D

From what I've heard (and I believe it), the smaller 9mm bullets suffer, accuracy-wise, in the larger bore. Cast 9mm would most likely be outta the question, entirely.

If ya don't plan on shooting 9mm in it, ya could jest as well buy a brand new .38/.357 fer not much over $400.

Otherwise, at about $130 less than for brand new, I'd say it's a "fair" deal ... maybe even a "good" deal.

I've got a Security Six in 6" that suffices for a standard .38/.357 -- I was wondering if this was better. I'm past my buyer's moment now.

Anyone else wants it, its at Gunstop in Minnetonka!

I've often thought about getting the Blackhawk convertible in .45ACP/.45 Colt with the 7.5" tube. That might be a better combination since .45 Colt has been standardized to .452", the same as .45ACP.

I bought one new ~1/2 year ago. I love the feel and rugedness of the gun. It's also accurate. I have not tried precision shooting with 9mm but I heard that it's acceptable. 9mm gives you an option to shoot cheap.
