Pre Purchase Pistol Advice

Postby Sammichman on Sat Nov 26, 2011 7:58 am

Im going to Purchase a CZ 75...Own a couple other CZ products and like there build ,,quality and price,,Iv,e decided on 9MM for my caliber ,But would like some advice on whether to purchase a Straight 1911 style single action CZ75SA or the CZ75B which is Dbl/Single,,I own both styles in various guns and calibers and have likes and dislike in both styles,,,,this gun will not be used to carry,,,It will be a range gun for target and possibly be used in competition where drawing from a holster may be neccesary,,last but of least importance except for price is Finish,,,Black or Nickel ,, Stainless is reserved for my 1911

A single action CZ75 is not a 1911 any more than a pinto is a rolls royce. They're both guns - that's IMO where the similarities end.

Now if you're shooting comp or it's just a range toy, having the short SA trigger makes sense. If this is going to be carried, having the option to carry with the hammer down, as well as the ability to re-strike a hard primer might be more desirable.

I don't own one, but as I understand it, there's THREE (if not more) "action" types ... CZ75BSA (single-action only), CZ75BD (decocker), and nearly every other CZ75 made (SA/DA + thumb-safety) ... the latter, affording C&L ... OR, if ya pinch the hammer 'tween yer weak-hand thumb 'n finger, and squeeze the trigger to release it, and ease it down, it's a first-shot DA.

As fer competition ... specifically USPSA, a 9mm would only be good fer Production ... so long as it ain't the "SA" model. Either of the other two would be ok. I'd think the "decocker" version would be a bit better fer new folks ... so they don't need to concern themselves with accidentally releasing the hammer whilst they squeeze the trigger. But I'm not prepared to go to war, over that. ;)

Someone familiar with IDPA may chime in, but my guess is, the "normal" model might be ok fer SSP and ESP ... whereas, one of the others would otherwise be excluded from one of them.

FWIW, I believe if it's C&L, the trigger stays closer to the rear ... so there'd otherwise not be much of an "advantage" goin' with the "SA" fer jest that. Basically, the "SA" model's trigger wouldn't have as much of a curve to it ... but, when C&L, I don't know that it'd matter.

Fer competition, most folks doin' particularly well with CZ's are usin' the SP-01 ("normal") model ...

I recall the SA trigger on the tanfoglio's remaining in a much more natural spot than the SA/DA model. I also find the transition to be a little distracting (could have something to do with my carrying a 1911 most often).

I think their match guns all come SAO, but could be mistaken.

Don't get me wrong, CZ's are good guns.

For IDPA, if the first shot is DA, the gun is stock or enhanced service pistol. Follow up shots may be either SA or DA. If the first shot is SA, the gun is in enhanced service pistol only (talking about 9mm here).

The third semi-auto class in IDPA is custom service pistol and that only pertains to 45acp.

Can't use a SA in USPSA. Have to make weight in IDPA (SP-01) If I was to shoot IDPA only I would get the SA.

Not true. The SA in USPSA can be shot in Lim and Lim10.

Sure you wouldn't settle for a two tone EAA?? A little under $500 at Gunstop (has to be ordered) and comes in 9mm, 38 Super, 40 S&W, 10mm, and 45 ACP.

Get yourself a 10 mm with the Galco Miami Classic shoulder holster and live the Miami Vice dream!

I can tell you one on-line dealer to stay away from,,,Praire Arms,,ordered a Firearm from them once after fifteen days and many e-mails without response,,I finnally cancelled my order thru my CC company,,,,Cheaper than Dirt had a nice price but it only included a single Mag,,also some of the feed back showed complaints about double shipping cost,,,I finnally orderd from Grab a Gun,,the price seemed right when I took in consideration the xtra mag 9.00 shipping and a High amount of satifactory customer Feed-back,,,also they have Burnsnville Pistol Range on there FFL dealer list,,so i don,t have to Fax or e-mail anything,,,One of there Cust support even sent me a Real e-mail after business Hours,,I should have shipping information on Monday and if all goes right I,ll be paying Roger or Susan a Visit Thursday or Friday 20.00 in one hand and some Goodies from my Cafe in the other,,,,also No Surcharge for Credit card Purchase
