S&W 442 Performance Center Model

I'm looking to order a new 442 and see that S&W is offering it in a 'Performance Center' version with improved trigger job from the factory. Anyone have any experience with this model? Is the trigger job worth the extra $60.00?

$60.00 more than what? there are some pretty good prices on the 442,I am not sure what S&W have their 442 priced at but I think they can be had for not much over $350. I haven't seen the perfomance model, where did you find it? msn

Yes, I am completely aware of the going rate for the 442. I've seen them as low as $339 on GB but add $25-$30 shipping and transfer fee and your looking at $379+ and I am not supporting my local dealer which I would prefer to do.

My local FFL is a Davidson's Gallery of Guns dealer. I can order the standard model #150544 or model #162810 w/ Uncle Mike's boot grip through them for $358.95 plus shipping & tax bringing the total to $402.81 and I am buying from my dealer which is a plus to me.

The Davidson's Gallery of Guns site also lists the 442 model #178034 which is the performance center version with improved trigger job from the factory. My dealer can get me this one for $417.95 plus shipping & tax for a total of $465.87.

So back to my original question...Does anyone have any experience with the performance center 442? Is the factory trigger job worth the extra $63.06?

I haven't tested Smith's trigger jobs, but I will say factory 442's and 642's have crappy triggers and are hard to shoot.

I'd spend the extra $60 on the chance that it would improve.

If you're pretty sure you're going to keep it, $60 is nothing over the years, and you'll save all the hassle and research of doing it yourself.

The trigger job is described as "Hand Stoned Trigger, Hammer Foot & Rebound Seat" and a reduced trigger return spring.

Apex makes a spring and firing pin kit for $20, so it really just depends what their stoning does. If all they do is polish, it may not be a good deal, but again for $60, I'd give it a shot.

I didn't mean to "Ruffle" your feathers but in order to comment one must know the numbers. I support you using your local FFL dealer. I do not have any expererence with the performance center 442, but I do with the 442 and imop Yes, it is worth the $63.06. The 442 really works for me, and may look into the performance version. Is the 442 you are looking at a "Lock or no lock" some folks just can't get beyond the lock, it matters not to me, but for resale it could discourage some people, msn

If you're looking for a 442 with a trigger job, try an LCR.

I know, Ruger and good trigger are rarely used in the same sentence, but the LCR's trigger is so much nicer than the 442/642.

I have not yet had the chance to fire a 442/642 or LCR. I have handled all of them and certainly noticed that the trigger on the LCR seems to be much smoother, I am just not a fan of the poly frame and the shape of trigger guard. I really like the feel of the 442 and am most likely going to order the performance center model. Maybe after I buy it I'll get one of you with a standard 442/642 or LCR to go to the range for a comparsion/review.

So how much do they get you for shipping???

It's been my experience that most any revolver will shoot better with a proper trigger/action job. $63.00 is a worthwhile investment for you, those guns are small and lightweight making them a little harder to shoot accurately so any mechanical advantage you make to the trigger should be a plus for better shooting.
