Shot more than a few SIGs and IMO they are nothing special. For the price they bemand there are alot of choices, I put them in the same group with Kimbers. And yes the EE is a personal choice issue and one that is a big deal to some of us. It is one of those totally unneeded bastardizations. I've got tens of thousands of rounds through 1911's and have never had an internal extractor issue.

When you say Sigs do you mean Sig 1911's or Sig designed pistols?

What's wrong with cast frames? (for the uninformed, as in, me)
1911 Fan quote in memoirium about carrying:
The purpose of a firearm in a defensive situation is to make the other guy leak from holes he was not born with. Your job is to install those orifices for him.

I'd say, nothing. But a properly forged frame is stronger than a properly cast one. A cast frame should be sufficiently strong.

So, is a polymer frame stronger than cast steel? Image

i'm on a waiting list from SIG. if all goes as planned, they are going to call me in the next few weeks so i can get the rounded MSH that's on that pistol and bob the gun i have!!!!

and re: cast frames, you're probably never going to push a 1911 to the point where a casted frame is going to fail. the forgings made sense for military use, where they are going to get tortured and dragged to hell and back. also, with todays advances in metal casting technology and stronger alloys, i think that it'd be stronger to have a cast frame from TODAY than a forged frame from 80 years ago. my opinion.

Caspian makes the sig 1911's frames (they might make the whole gun). Pete was a big fan of Caspian and the Sig 1911 with exception to the EE, so he didn't own any. They have ERW barrels, and a bunch of other goodies. It's a first rate gun.

Casting is different than MIM (metal injection molding), and lots of things are made with the casting process that take a beating - engine blocks, wheel hubs, brake disks, crank shafts, cam shafts, differential housings. Get the idea?

Now if someone made a large caliber slide with MIM, I wouldn't shoot it for fear of taking half of it in the face.
