if i can get $.02 in before the OP makes his decision, i TOTALLY agree with Phatty above ^^^
the PPQ is a great, and i mean GREAT gun. it has an almost-amazing trigger outta the box, and it's TOTALLY ambi (like the HK P2000 and HK P30, but without the HK pricing) to include the slide release. also, the mag release on the trigger guard is quite easy to get used to, and when you get it down pat, it can make for some speedy reloads!
regarding the M&Ps, they have a VERY hard slide release, and the trigger is pretty crap-tastic outta the box. the common response is "Get an Apex trigger installed then", but why should you have to spend the extra $$$ to get an Apex trigger when the Walther PPQ already has a nice one?
the PPQ carries an MSRP of $599
the M&P9 carries an MSRP of $569
the HK P30 is an MSRP of $1054
the HK P2000 MSRP is $941
not to say that any of them are BETTER guns than the other, but IMHO the S&W needs work to be it's best, and the HKs are out of the price range of many shooters. when you get an HK you're paying a premium for the name (and the quality that it comes with, AND the ability to sell it quickly if you need to without taking a massive cut)
that's my $.02, but remember that you didn't pay for it. your mileage may vary, EPA estimates are based on a highway speed of 42.6mph and city mileage is set at 38.7 stopping every 200 feet
