Those bullets look cheap.

I've got a 9" upper on my SBR lower and, can or not, I still get a giggle out of shooting subsonics through it.
So far, I've messed with 190gr Bergers and 220 & 240gr SMK and they've been pretty accurate.
Have you done any load development with supersonic loads yet?
engnerdan wrote:It sure is not as cheap to load for as 223.

Did you buy the brass or make your own? I have done it both ways and the clear winner had been brass from "Brad" on the internet. I made 400 rounds myself from 223 brass, I will never do that again unless I find myself with tons of time to waste.

I jest got the thing together Friday nite ... I had ordered the 208's some time ago. I'm jest now gettin' into the mindset of workin' up a deer load. I'm lookin' at the Hornady 160gr FTX (.30-30) ... I called Hornady ... dude said it's what he uses in his Whisper ... says it'll expand at 1,500fps. I got data that leads me to believe I could make up to 1,900fps m/v from my 9in with it ... that'd make it a 190yd gun ... I doubt I'd take a 190yd shot with it, though!
I'll order some bullets this 'er next week 'n work up some loads.
240gr SMK?! ... I jest 'bout had to change my drawers when I first seen the 208's, in person ... I'm almost a little afraid to order 240's! ... do ya measure your seating in thousandths off the primer?

Interesting info about the Hornady bullet. Their not cheap but the Barnes 110gr Tac TX (300 BLK-specific) is also designed to function with lower velocities. I can't remember where but I've seen a pic of one of the Barnes bullets that had been recovered from a block of ballistic gel at 300 yards and had fully expanded. The test gun was an AAC 9" upper. How long is the Hornady bullet and did the Hornady tech give you suggestions on load data. I've got a little bit of load data with a 150gr Fusion projectile and I'll get some more from some 145 and 150gr FMJ bullets later this week. If you need, I can share some of the data if you think it will help. Based on what I have so far, 1900 shouldn't be hard to reach as long as that bullet isn't super long.
Ya, that 240gr is ridiculous. It is suprisingly longer than a 220gr. The length difference between a 200 and a 220gr is not nearly as dramatic as between the 220 and the 240gr.
I never had any interest in it before but I might even start casting bullets for this gun if I can find a cheap enough source of lead. The new Lee 230gr molds and the 247gr mold from NOE are very intriguing.
