Any-who... I've read a couple of times now that Shield owners are passing up on the XD-S, I find that interesting and my pocketbook is thankful... takes the edge off, at least until a 9mm version is released. :D

I really want to get my hands on a shield. Can't wait to hold an XD-S either....I feel like I'm way behind on this stuff. I can tell you the Glock 36 didn't do much for me (how is it better than a G19/23?, about same size, less firepower), hopefully the XD-S can improve upon that experience for me.

five rounds of .45 isn't enough.... I'd rather print carrying in double stack than successfully conceal a single with 5-6 shots
TOYS--> NAA .22LR (5-Shot), Walther P22Q, Walther PK380, Springfield XDm-9, S&W M&P .22, Glock 23, Glock 22 Gen4, FNH FiveseveN
FNH FNP-45 Tactical, FNH FNX-9, Sig Sauer 1911 C3 Plus, DPMS A-15, Noveske N-4, Nodak AK-74, Izmash Saiga-12

Exactly my thoughts when I passed on the Glock 36....and that holds 6+1

I played with an XDs at Runnings in Willmar today.

Meh.

It feels really, really, REALLY topheavy. And, to be honest, I really couldn't feel any difference in weight between it and my New Agent. If anything, the unbalanced feeling made it seem to be heavier.

I will say the trigger was cleaner than the usual oatmeal mush XD/XDm trigger, but it was also surprisingly heavy.

Color me unimpressed.

Amen.

It might be a monster (but I don't care...) once I get my PTC, I'll carry my XDm 4.5" .45ACP with the overall length of 7". One in the chamber + 13 in the mag (plus an extra mag), and I'm set. I know smaller weapons are easier to conceal, but I have a hard time shooting smaller weapons because I have big hands (and because I also prefer a larger weapon in both size and caliber).

5+1 is plenty, but I passed on the XD-S twice now... I'm very happy with my Shield and M&P 9C, but do think the XD-S will be a huge hit for Springfield.

Once you get your PTC and carry every day for say 4 months, repost that same comment.

Agreed, though you're pretty generous at 4 months. :D

No offense meant here.....

Ok. So once I carry it for 4 months and post here again, then what?

I'm not purchasing a 3rd pistol right now or anytime in the foreseeable future.
I'm not going to carry my .22LR.
I'll carry my XDm. I will adapt. It's not going to be easy, just necessary. It's that simple.

Yes, carrying a smaller weapon is easier, but shooting it isn't (at least for me.) It's probably something I could and should learn to do, but owning a smaller weapon isn't a priority for me. Besides, I'm a big guy. I've over 6 feet tall. It's not like I'm 5' 6" and the XDm is going to that be out of proportion for my size.

Good luck. I just found out that it was quite hard to conceal a larger pistol. J-frame and LCP is what I ended up with all of the time. G19 was left at home tell it found a new one.

As far as the delay on the XD-S, it could either be gun sourcing problems or another case of Obama induced gun famine, which has started up already, seeing as we appear to be heading for another 4 years of this commie pinko %#@!#@^%&^%%^)&*(&^%$#@$!##!$%^&*()!!!!! Lord only knows if we will have a Constitution or a 2nd Amendment or any of the rest of the Bill of Rights by 2016. Ruger has announced some time ago that they have orders in hand for ALL of their production for the rest of this year :( :o  , so there are no Rugers available until next year.

I would tend to agree that 5+1 45's is a bit on the low side, and it seems like there are a LOT of guns out there which are dedicated to the newer carriers who wants convenience, and has very little experience with ammo capacity, stopping power, or proper carry techniques and available holsters and belts. They're all afraid that somebody might "see" they have a gun, so it has to fit in a pocket or otherwise work into their available wardrobe. which in some cases is a beginner mistake. Convenience is nice, but not at the expense of compromising your own safety if TSHTF.

You brought up an interesting point about carry guns....do you buy the gun first and then worry about buying a new wardrobe that will conceal it well or do you keep your current wardrobe and shop around for a gun that will fit it with minimum printing?
