A one time keep might run over $1K.

If the limit is $1K, I would look hard at a Springfield Armory model that meets you needs.

Olympic Arms Westerner

Probably the prettiest 1911 I've ever seen. Shot really nice too!

I have been fortunate, but I assume there are some here that will give some good negative info based on their own experiences.

Go to the Firearms thread and buy the Kimber Custom Ii that is for sale by the gentleman selling his entire gun collection. Great gun for a great price.

Sig 1911
Springfield Loaded

They are both great guns and I have never had a hiccup with either.

Honestly if I were you I would just save a little more and get a gently used TRP.

nothin quite like a colt!

I made this several months ago ...

i was unaware Dan Wesson had one under $1,500. I've got a couple older ones ... they make passable paperweights ... I presume they do a far better job these days.

someone was hot on the double star ... til he received it ... too bad! ... that looked real good, on paper!

if not a Colt, S&W, Sig, or Springfield, I'd be wiling to give a Ruger a go!

Any reason you wouldn't just buy the real deal? Nothing but a Colt of course. I got sick of playing with cheap and junky 1911's. I ponied up and got a real one. Here's mine.

Nice pony! How much was it?

I'll also support going the Colt route, being a new owner myself. Here is mine:

Cost was just a touch over your limit from a great guy here on the forum. A little tricky to find, but a phenomenal gun. Save up a a couple hundred dollars and you can't go wrong.
