9mm run just fine on a 1911 platform. I ran 1850 rounds of 9mm through a Springfield Armory 1911 through LFI's Advanced StressFire, this was in a one and half day class, never failed once. Requirement for the class was to bring 2000 rounds and shooting that many rounds makes the 9mm ammo easier on the pocket book. Also took 9mm 1911's when I went through training at Blackwater a few years back, a Springfield and STI Trojan, both ran just fine.

I really like my Springfield, granted it is just a Mil-Spec but I like the fact that it is a series 70 and I like the fit and finish.

Sounds like you don't really like 1911's, but still want a 1911.

Spend $450 on a new Rock Island and throw it in the safe, then you have one... just because.

Edit:
Never mind, I see you got yourself a shiny Kimber - enjoy!
