EAA Witness P Fullsize 9mm

State tax refund was deposited into my checking account today, and I went up to see my local gun shop (gotta enjoy his company while he is still around). He is having a retirement sale this year, and everything must go. I bought a Kel Tec PF9 from him a couple weeks ago, and it's been a great carry gun. I was looking in the display cases (sad to see them so empty), and saw he had one EAA Witness P Fullsize left in 9mm. I bought it, with two spare factory magazines for $400.

My father bought the Witness P 9mm and he loves it. Shoots great and I have never seen it have any problems.

I've got one as well that is a well made, reliable, and accurate firearm. Witnesses are underrated and a generally a good buy although I don't think they hold up well on resale value. I wouldn't know, I don't sell my guns.

I don't care for the Poly version myself, but carry and shoot IDPA with a Witness Classic (steel) in 40 S&W. Can't say enough good about them, but the pivoting trigger is an adjustment for people used to the straight pull of a 1911. I did have an issue with the slide cracking under the ejection port on one 40 "Wondefinish" gun, but EAA was quick and easy to deal with on the customer service repair/return. The wonderfinish guns appear to be subject to cracks because of the heat treatment process, as it is not uncommon in those guns in 357sig, 40, and 10mm.

The Tanfoglio (Wintess) is a clone of the CZ75 design. They are available in a large fram and small frame configuration. Most if not all new production guns are large frame (the Classic I have is a new production small frame). With the large frame guns you can just get a different slide and mags and shoot 9, 38super, 357SIG, 40, 10, 45 etc all in one gun. I have read the reason for this is the restrictive gun laws in Europe make it easy to have one frame but many uppers to shoot different calibers.

The Tanfoglio is a slight improvement over the CZ75 IMHO because the gun can be carried cocked and locked just as the 75 is, but also safety on hammer down, which is not possible with the CZ.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone! My biggest concern was the risk of having to possibly deal with EAA customer service in the future, since i heard it was so terrible on other posts.

It's interesting that the customer service has turned around at EAA. For years it was absolutely horrible, all due to their resident gunsmith (Paul, IIRC) who was also part owner, and he would treat you like I treat reloading n00bs who ask ignorant or misguided questions with potentially lethal consequences. I, however, am not trying to run a business and reloading safety means far more to me than some n00b's feelings. At any rate, Paul generated a small army of pissed off people at places like CZforum.com (clone section), and if you got Paul instead of the nice woman who handles the general customer service you were pretty much screwed. Either Paul got bought out, or finally realized that he was pretty much destroying the bottom line and reputation for his company.

At any rate, it's nice to hear that things have turned around. One other tip: Several times as EAA has changed their line, they dump their surplus inventory on CDNN for very low prices, and if you're in the market for an EAA it doesn't hurt to haunt the CDNN website. Don't wait for them to send you a paper catalog, as it will probably be too late.

If you paid by credit card and your FFL is listed with them it's about a week in my experience.
