Is it fear, or just a matter of not seeing the point? Are you mortgaging your house to buy guns? Building a guard tower?
Either way, take it slow, don't be obnoxious about it. Point out the horrible things happening in the news, but make sure you let her draw her own conclusions.

Above all else, don't force the issue on her, or you will never convince her. Have a frank, open talk, make a few points, without getting stressed, or letting her get stressed. Get the idea in her head, without pressure from you...then drop it. Women on Target may be good for her, if it's not fear-based, or at least, not extreme fear.
