I've been told.................

Postby Stradawhovious on Fri May 30, 2008 10:02 pm

I've been told by my lower half that my firearm hobby/collection/family defense is unhealthy and un-necessary. Does anyone have any advice for her?

Your lower half, you mean what you have between yours legs????
And you call it,,,,,them, a her????
Does this have something to do with the steak that you are swinging in your avatar? Never mind, I don't want to know.

Nope, no advise at all on what you ask, but you may want to check out some professional help.

I'm sorry, but words mean thing and I do not want you to explain. :hide:

Assuming you are talking about your better half....

Is it fear, or just a matter of not seeing the point? Are you mortgaging your house to buy guns? Building a guard tower?

Either way, take it slow, don't be obnoxious about it. Point out the horrible things happening in the news, but make sure you let her draw her own conclusions.

Above all else, don't force the issue on her, or you will never convince her. Have a frank, open talk, make a few points, without getting stressed, or letting her get stressed. Get the idea in her head, without pressure from you...then drop it. Women on Target may be good for her, if it's not fear-based, or at least, not extreme fear.

Don't push, but don't give up. It's a fine line to walk.

No, nothing like that really, she just sees a firearm as "space that could otherwise be taken up by a throw pillow or candle" I think her exact words were "I don't see the point. why do you need more than one handgun?" I'm certainly not gearing up to defend the castle against a Canadian invasion, and the tinfoil hats are not being proudly worn, but when I come home with a new toy the eyes start a-rollin'. The most frustrating thing about all of this is that I can't take her to the range in fear of her showing me up :D First time out for her, 7 months pregnant, 2" groupings with a 1911 at 21 feet. She's getting there slowly but surely.

I would have her check out the website http://www.corneredcat.com it makes good arguments about why you should be able to keep your guns but also why she should get her own.

ask her how many purses she has, ask how many shoes, tell her guns are like that, each has a specific use and purpose, just like that black with sorta heels pair of shoes is different from the black pair with the almost sorta heels, with the open toe.

Tell her it is investment.
Tell her it is just like her shoes, purses, dresses or what ever is her sickness... they all have one. ;) Yours is guns
Tell her you job is to protect her and you need the tools to do it. 8-)

Go out and buy consecutive numbered, matching firearms.
And why do you give a rodents bottom, if she's a better shot. Twice the protection for your castle and kiddies 8-)

When my wife expressed a similar opinion and asked why I would want a gun in the house, I said at one point in the discussion, "Maybe it's a phase and I'll grow out of it." That's the only thing I remember that really seemed to make sense to her and make her feel better. Of course as the years have gone by, she's had to slowly adjust to the fact that, like all the other romantic fantasies of marriage, that was total bullsh¡t.

It's only unhealthy for the person that tries to come into my house uninvited, or the person that tries to harm either me or my family.

I am sorry to report that there is no solution. Your wife is correct.

Please put all guns into a suitable case and I shall pick them up personally to avoid further marital difficulties. It is the least I can do.
