1911 gun painting

I have a Kimber ultra carry 2. I love the shooting of it but the finish on the frame comes off when you hit or nick it. I love the finish on my Glocks. very durable. Is there any way I can get a strong finish on my Kimber? Is there such thing? Has anyone does this and does the alloy frame hold the finish better than the factory black finish?

I can cerakote it. It's pretty durable stuff, but weapons will always scratch, ding, etc unless you never use them.

Look up DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating. That finish is damn near invincible and from what I've heard if done right allows a gun to be shot dry. The problem is finding a place that will do it on a firearm.

That's because DLC coatings were designed for F1 engines. Should work great on a firearm.

The Tenifer on Glocks is essentially Melonite. Should be way easier to find someone to do this sort of thing.

Maybe none. Does your ultra carry have an aluminum frame? Some of above coatings work well with anodized surfaces, some not so well.

I had a 1911 slide ceracoted a few years back and I can say it is some tough stuff. The real beauty is that is that they were able to make chicken salad out of chicken s#!t. That slide was rough. I highly recommend.
