Totally agreed, except that I have seen with my own 2 eyes 4-day classes where the 1911's would drop out due to total malfunction and the Glock will just keep on chugging.

1911's are great and they can be made to be as accurate and reliable as you want, even as and reliable as an out of the box glock with some serious work (which makes them twitchy) Sorry, couldnt resist.

If you are getting a 1911, get an old one.

As for the Glock not shooting cast bullets, they weren't designed to do so and it is Clear. As for reloads - I have seen plenty of 1911's come unglued... Dont go there.

For most people a 1911 is pretty good, but I dont trust my life to "Pretty Good" I dont like 1911's for defense - I like a big gas tank and it is not because I cannot shoot. I like a gun that I can abuse and it never complains - Glocks just plain work and are far more accurate than they need to be for the job they do, are about as reliable as a small machine can be when you do your part, and are not perfect, but are pretty close to ideal for the majority of shooters.

I would even take a K-Frame Smith before a 1911 into a fight any day of the week and 2X on Sunday.

I had the exact opposite experience in a two day class that I took and fired ~1850 rounds. There were six Glocks and one 1911, five of the Glocks had to be taken off the line for repair, only one Glock and the lone 1911 survived that weekend without a problem.
