Its a handgun, run that thing! Run it hard, too. A rifle barrel requires certain break in methods for serious accuracy, not so much with a handgun. As for oiling and cleaning, I wouldn't worry much. They can take some serious abuse
saying that guns kill people is like saying that spoons made Rosie O'Donnell fat.

if God wanted us to drink whiskey, he would have given us stomaches

The Three M&P's that I have broken in. I clean and lube per regular maintenance. Dry fire the crap out of it with or w/o snap caps. Then take as much ammo as possible and put the gun through it's paces. I usually start out with 5 rounds per mag the first like 50 rounds. Then I load up and have a blast.

Actually, the break in procedure for rifle barrels has been disputed by many who regard it as "voodoo" and potentially more harmful than good. ;)

The benchrest community has long advocated NOT cleaning a barrel until accuracy is diminished (too much fouling eventually will effect bullet flight). They've found more harm is done scrubbing the chamber and bore than leaving the gunk in it until it needs to be removed.

The first few rounds might take some burrs off the bore left from machining, but putting a patch or 20 through it probably won't have any impact on allowing the bullets to keep working those off.
