Anyways, I have a couple revolvers and a couple Glocks. I have kind of looked at a sig 1911 nightmare but I like the durability of the Glock type guns. Which takes me towards a sig sauer P220 carry. I like the gun but are there any thing I should know for a non sig newbie? Is there any little add ons or letters in the name that mean extra?

Are there any other type of manufacturers that I should look at? I want to keep it under $1100.

Mainly the gun will be used for home defense but might carry once in a great while. So weight really isn't an issue. Size wise, I really like the 4" barrel length. Next I have small hands so that is a reason I like the 1911 handle and single stacks.

Thanks

I love my Glock 21! It is very accurate and well below $1100.

You may need to call around. Most every shop sells Springfield. Don't forget Southwest Arms.

Actually I don't think I am gonna do Springfield. Just saw they are made in Brazil. Last gun I got from brazil blew up in my hand(Taurus).

Had a Glock 21 but it was too big. Got a glock 19 & 29 so I want to varying collection. Thinking sig p220 carry.

Does smith have a all stainless 4" 1911?

Nope all of S&W's 4" guns are scandium frames you can get the slide in blued or stainless. If you want an all steel 4" gun your options are limited, If your open to a blued gun I would look at an STI.

Does Taurus use Imbel frames?

You can find older Springers with US final machining/fitting, but they stopped putting their IL address on the frames when most of the production moved south. Their higher end guns are still finished here, along with the RO, but that wouldn't be a good carry gun and is also 5".

I wouldn't be afraid of the 'made in brazil' Springfields. Imbel has a fine reputation for firearms production, they're a far cry from a Taurus.
My Brazilian Springfield has been incredibly reliable.

+1 Billion, and I have beat the **** out of mine. I think it has seen 10,000 rounds in the 3 years I have owned it.

... one other possibility! :? ...

• forged frame, made in U.S.

• lifetime warranty

no firing-pin-block-safety

• match trigger

• extended thumb-safety

• "full" beavertail grip-safety

• checkered front-strap

• novak sights

• s/b $800ish, if ya can find one!

... this one's gettin' down below $700, now ... mostly the same as above ... 'sept fer the "scalloped" beavertail, smooth front-strap, and cast frame (not that there's anything wrong with that!) ...

... ya could also get a Colt ... but it's likely gonna have a firing-pin-block-safety (not that there's anything wrong with that!) ... forged U.S. frame, though ... and also $800ish ... if ya can find one ...

... Sig's probly not a bad way to go, neither ... firing-pin-block-safety ... purdy sure the frame is cast ... probly U.S., though ... "scalloped" beavertail ... I'd guess the price to be $800ish, as well ...

... Flattop's still the best of the lot, though! ;)

Come on, that has got to be figured out by now. Ill take that vs a firing pin block anyday, and im beyond the "mil spec" nostalgia. Function over form baby!

I skip both abominations, and don't care about mil spec in the slightest. ;)

I have beaver tails, 9mm, FLGR's, lasers, lowered ejection ports, and night sights on at least one of the three 1911's in this household - but I won't have a swarz safety, series 80, or an external extractor.
