.22lr hand gun?

Postby rugershooter6823 on Sat Dec 22, 2012 10:47 am

Im in the market for a .22 hand gun. Im getting this for a couple reasons. Main purpose is to help my pistol skills and correct some trigger jerk I have. And also to have a pistol my wife will enjoy to shoot with me, she really doesn't like shoot my .38 or my .40. So are there and 22 pistols you would recommend over others! I like the looks and feel of the ruger sr22 and also the sig 1911 .22!
Thanks in advance!

A friend has the Ruger SR22, and it's been less than reliable so far.
I have, and can wholeheartedly recommend, a Ruger MkIII, and a Browning Buckmark.
The Buckmark in particular, is accurate, reliable, and shoots anything.

I know they get a lot of flack, but I have a S&W 22a that I love. I also have a Ruger Mark III that shoots everything that I've fed it.

I personally own many Buck Marks and love them, but have heard good about the ruker MK series, beretta neos, Smith sa22 as well. It seems as though the models that are modeled after da/sa type guns are not as reliable. There are a few that have had good luck, but not as much as the models listed above.

Smith & Wesson Model 41 is the greatest American .22 pistol ever made. One of very few firearms I've ever owned that I'd never even consider selling. Right out of the box, it is perfectly capable of everything from plinking at tin cans, to winning NRA Bullseye Pistol matches. Not cheap, but if you are in the market for a .22, you owe it to yourself to try one. One downside is your wife may find the grip too large if she has small hands.

Good luck,
Erik

I have a SR22 and find it to be a great little shooter. It eats CCI mini mag with out a single hick up (as most will I beleive). On occasion it will fail to feed the 2nd round (always the 2nd) when shooting Winchester SuperX, other wise those run fine. Federal Bulk is with out a hick up as well. I can appreciate the ambi controls as my wife is a lefty and I'm a righty. Fits nice, shoots nice, the sights are pretty decent and adjustable. The trigger in SA is pretty good IMO. The take up right to break is great. DA is pretty long and rather gritty but I rarely shoot it DA anyway.
It usually gets quite a work out at the range becuase everyone who was poking fun at having a .22 typically ends up shooting it when they watch money flying down the range with their larger guns. I put more rounds through it each trip than my Glock could hope to see. It's just a fun little plinker. It's as accurate as I could expect it to be. If you take your time it'll shoot some pretty tight groups.
The 1911-22 is still on my list as well. I think it would be a pretty solid choice.
Bills North has an SR you could rent if you haven't had the chance to shoot it yet.
I'd give it 2 thumbs up.

Don't overlook the S&W MP 22. They are very accurate and reliable, seem to shoot whatever you load in them. Also recommend the Buckmarks, all under $400, and you have a chance of actually finding a 22<g>

I have a Ruger 22/45 which you are free to try out any time you want. Works well for me. I recommend it.

Check out what these guys have to say.....

I'd echo a model 41 but again not cheap. I'd suggest a Mark over a 22/45 ruger, I'm not a big fan of how the weight distribution feels with the polymer frame. The MP 22 is also a great little gun, I'd rank it below the Mark but above the 22/45.

I've got a 41 and a Mark, had a MP 22 that I wished I had not sold at a stupid weak moment.
