I've never tried one, so I can't offer an opinion on those.

.22lr hand gun?

I didn't like the weight of the standard 22/45 either however the 22/45 LITE model is awesome. I have two of them one set up for limited and one set up for open competition in then ruger rimfire. Series.

Cheers.

One of my shooting buddies had the slide crack in half while shooting, it flew off into his face. The slides are made out of junk metal.

haha same thing happened with my Mosquito.

Get a Mark III stainless....stainless barrel, stainless receiver, stainless FRAME, stainless bolt...fires every kind of ammo...and fires everything accurately.

Right on. Hey, whatever works for ya. I never tried one of those, but I'd pop off a few rounds for S&Gs.

I had trouble with a lot of the cheap ammo in the walther. It'd run cci hi velocity's fine, but $4.50/box ammo isn't why you get a .22lr.

I agree with the Ruger Mark's as a great gun, but I also shoot my SR22 pistol better than I did my Mark 2 (sold it to Ninja since he wanted to buy it when I picked it up and I didn't know that at the time). The sr22 will also fit nicely in a back pocket, and I find that invaluable for my use of the gun.

Don't rule out the Beretta Neos. They're pretty heavy and not exactly svelte, but they're very accurate and have great ergonomics. I haven't had any trouble with bulk remmy and federal ammo in ours, and my wife claimed it since she shoots it better than the ruger.

I'll be making a range trip to Bills South sometime this week. I can bring the neos and sr22 if you'd like to try them.

Check out the Walther forums http://www.waltherforums.com/forum/ . I've only superficially perused those threads, but there appears to be some question as to the quality of the P22. Slide cracking appears to have been a rather common problem.

As to a good, basic .22 pistol, it's hard to imagine looking farther than Ruger. The line of accessories and upgrades is dizzying, if for no other reason.

I picked up a 22A last month and really like it. I have put about seven hundred rounds thru it and it has worked flawlessly.

I looked at one of these too, looks identical to the Mosquito on the inside...dent in the chamber from the firing pin and everything

If anyone has a Ruger Mark III 22/45 and is annoyed by the magazine disconnect, here's the fix: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=37144

When I was looking for a .22 pistol, I ended up purchasing an older, used High Standard Supermatic. Love it! Have run several thousand rounds through it. My dad had a High Standard HD Military, that he purchased used as a youth. He shot it a lot, then his five boys shot it a lot (we did have to replace some trigger/sear parts way back when), and now it is educating grandkids!

Now if I were to purchase new, I would probably get one of the rugers, or if I ran across the right deal, I would like a S&W model 41.

Just my 2 cents.
