Anybody have a Kahr PM9

Postby brauchma on Sun Jan 20, 2013 8:35 pm

My wife wants a S&W MP Shield and we can't find one anywhere for a reasonable price. She is on a large number of long waiting lists for one. She is sad and losing hope to get one.

She looked at a PM9 today and I was shocked that she really liked it. Her only concerns are if it kicks too much and how the trigger pull is.

Can anybody speak to or about them? An even better scenario is if somebody is close to St. Cloud that has one and let her shoot it. I'd buy lunch and bring ammo. =]

IMO they have one of the best DAO triggers out there. Pretty clean.

The PM9 is a great gun, the P9 would be closer to the Shield in size. My wife currently has a Shield and I had a PM9.

The Shield is easier to shoot but harder to conceal. Next time you are in the South Metro, I am happy to let you shoot it.

Just an FYI - I was at Hoffy's in Woodbury yesterday and I'm 99% sure they had a Kahr Pm9 on consignment for $400. I'd call to make sure.

I have a PM9, one of my favorite guns I own. The only thing I recommend is to get a Houge Handall Jr.

i'm a fan of Kahr pistols. the CW or P45 is high on my list of wants.
the trigger is a funny one. it's long, but REALLY smooth. also, the trigger's internal safety mechanism requires that the trigger go ALL the way out to reset. annoying if you're used to shooting finely tuned competition guns, not too tricky if you (like me) are used to shooting off the shelf stuff

I first carried a KelTec P-11. It was easy to carry, but truly horrid to shoot.

The Kahr PM9 is just as small, just as light, but a lot more accurate, and a lot more comfortable to shoot.

It still has a pretty sharp rap that gets to be painful after 50 rounds or so. That's inevitable shooting 9mm from a 14 oz gun. But it has a very nice, smooth trigger.

I use Brooks Tactical's Agrip, on mine.

Mrs. C. Has a CW9 and I'll be in St. Cloud Thursday during the day. Shoot me a PM if interested.

I have to point you to this 18 minute rave by a female shooter about the shield...she has her own channel and it's the best female vid source on firearms I've seen. This woman is smart and articulate.
Your wife needs to hear it from this woman how much she likes the way the shield shoots / carries . It's her EDC and she switched from a compact S&W m&p.
The point being. If she likes it ultimately she won't regret waiting. I want one too but will wait till I can snag one locally for $399 :)

I like my PM9 alot, second most carried handgun and has never failed except mine does not like Winchester Silver Tips. I carry Corbon ammo in it, sometimes Speer Gold Dot, all reliable, never a problem with that ammo. Have also used the PM9 in classes that I needed a backup gun to transition to from my primary. In those types of classes or others that I use it in I have used cheap Winchester, Federal, S&B among other misc. ammo I have laying around and again 100% reliable. Never researched why it didn't like the Silver Tips, feeds everything else, so didn't worry about it.

If you are going to be in the Mankato area, I have a Kahr P9, PM9 and a P380 that you are more than welcome to check out on the range.

I got a CM9 for carry, then a NYPD turn-in K9. The K9 is nicer to shoot, a bit heavier (and larger) to absorb more recoil, but still concealable. Both pistols have very smooth long travel trigger pulls, without the staging feel of the firing pin block being raised that my CZs and Glock have. Better to have something than not, bird in the hand sort of thing. My 2 cents, get her the PM9 and be covered until the Shield can be yours. My Kahrs have never had a glitch, but I'm not good enough with them for bullseye, so I got a CZ!

my gf carries a pm9 after she shot mine. I agree, Best factory doa trigger out there. Its also a lot easier to control w/ a mag extension or the 7rd mag. Even with my big hands

Thanks folks! I swung by cabelas last night and asked about a shield. He said he has not seen one in the store for 5 months. Not sure if it is true or not.

My problem waiting for the shield to show up with thousands of other folks out there that my wife has nothing good to carry right now.

Now we need to find a pm/p9. But shoot one first as well. I will follow up with offers to try one when we are in your neck of the woods.

Before sandy hook, my guy was out to April for Shields. Now, they tell him if you get any you won't know they are coming.
.
I'm in same boat, my SO is in the market and loves the Shield. Got her looking hard at a Kahr CM9, shooting one this week. She is open to the smaller size, and I think she will carry full time with a smaller piece, where the Shield is to big for her clothing style and size to create a full time habit.

My wife got a PM9 and she loves it. It shoots nice and the trigger is long but super smooth. She already has a holster or two coming.
