Alright folks, i'm doing it. Glock 1911

Thats right, i'm beginning to make the pistol pictured. I know this picture has been tossed around here in the past. I have been thinking about making the picture a reality for quite some time now. Couple questions regarding the gun.

I am thinking that the base gun will be a Rock Island 9mm Tactical. I would like to use that pistol for a few reasons. First, I would like to have it in 9mm. Second, I think the logo on the slide is simply painted on (please offer input if i'm wrong).

Is there any legality when engraving the slide with the Glock logo and other such markings? Is there a shop anyone could recommend to have them done? I figure I could go to Consumate for the coating once engravings are done.

Lastly, the grips in the picture are going to be extremely tough or expensive to obtain. Any grip you folks would recommend?

I really do not care if you think the idea is stupid, everyone has an opinion.

The biggest roadblock in gun selection is I need a slide that isn't already engraved.

Those are good for putting the GLOCK you just bought in to take it home. It helps save the embarrassment of anyone seeing you just bought a GLOCK.

Just FYI--the logo on the RIA slide is NOT just painted on--it's a rollmark.

You'd be best off buying an aftermarket naked slide.

No way. I'd never buy a G-lok. When I want to get all nasty with an Austrian pop gun I borrow one from a Glock lover/closet 1911 guy friend. I loan him my revolver when he wants to shoot something that has no malfunctions. That way no one outside of the two of us ever knows..... ummm nevermind. 8-)

Great idea for the build!

For the grips you could start off with getting a logo on the Ergo grips.

Thank you, Kerns bbo, looks like I will be using Ergo XTR grips. Not sure that I will dink around with a logo for them. This gun will be more of a joke than anything.

If I cant come up with a factory gun that isn't roll marked or engraved on the slide, I might just forget about it.

Thanks for the input everyone else

This guy just sanded the roll mark off and it turned out well. http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=329841 Lots of time invested though. I think it would be a super fun project but mimicking the Glock rollmarks on the slide and the tennifer coating would be the hard parts.
