XDm...

What do you like or dislike about yours? Thinking of getting a 3.8 in 9mm. Would love a compact model but they are really hard to find right now...

I have had my 9mm compact since they came out, it was my first handgun. My thought was that it would be my everything gun, but for me it's too big to carry. Love the gun, it shoots great and never gives me any trouble. I'm sure the world of holsters has opened up quite a bit since I got mine as well. The 19+1 capacity is nice to have, but even with the compact flush magazine, 13+1 is nothing to balk at either.

No complaints here, I like it so much I got an XD-S to carry.

Pros: MANY.

Comes with all sorts of accessories such as al ock, adjustable grip, holster, 2-magazine holster, 2 13-round magazines, rod and brush, magazine loader.
Nice case. Heavy duty. Good book for instructions.
Can easily change to one of 3 grips that come with the gun.
Looks killer in bi-tone.
Comes in a .9mm, .40 cal and .45ACP configuration. I opted for the .45ACP version.
Can hold 10-round or 13-round magazines. I only have 13-round magazines.
Eats any .45ACP ammo without complaint.
If you miss your target, it's you and not the gun.

The differences between the XD and XDm have been debated, but to me, the extra cash is worth the redesign, the match grade barrel, etc.

Easy to clean. It breaks down into:

- Barrel
- Lower Receiver
- Recoil Rod
- Recoil Spring
- Upper Assembly

The BEST and most important upgrade you can do for your XDm with the 4.5" or 5.25" barrel is to buy this: http://brassstacker.com/Springfield-Arm ... -5.25.html

I put 3,000 rounds through my XDm before buying that and on the 3,001st shot, I knew it was a new gun. It's the best thing you can buy for it other than more ammo and magazines. It makes that much of a difference - especially on rapid-firing consecutive shots. Come try mine and compare against an XDm with the .073 oz hollow recoil rod vs. the Tungsten Carbide 3.0oz one I've installed.

I clean it after every range use and have never had a jam or issue with it.

Cons: 1.

Finding a holster for the XDm is a real PITA. There are ones out there which get CLOSE, but not EXACT - unless you've purchased a custom made one. Locally, SGH gets a lot of nods, but I went with the Slide Guard for OC made by High Noon Holsters http://highnoonholsters.com/Product_Lin ... guard.html I got mine in black and with the extra lining. Well worth it. They also make IWB holsters as well for those who prefer to CC vs. OC. For the bet, I went with one from http://www.thebeltman.net/ and all in all, $250 got me both the belt and holster rig from two different places, both all custom made. Well worth every cent spent.

It has never touched Tula and Wolf, so that's fair to say it's untested. I also haven't shot non-jacketted ammo through it either. Just trying to avoid the cheap and messy stuff. Now, I have heard that the Wolf ammo is good for .22LR, so I'll give that a go perhaps one day.

My EDC is a 3.8 Compact and my comp gun is a 5.25 both in .40. Hoping to get both an XDs and another 5.25 in 9mm soon. They are GTG. I'm up to about 4K rounds through my 5.25 and the only malfunction I've ever had was at a 3 gun match last December. You had to pick the gun up off the table and engage targets. When I picked the gun up I got a really poor grip on it and had a limp wrist stove-pipe, The reason I didn't try to correct my grip was the targets were really close, fast and easy. Also should be mentioned that I shoot really soft shooting .40 rounds at around 760 FPS.

Love my xdm9 3.8, its my edc and fits great in my kingtuk
It eats everything for ammo too. With the short mag and a pearce extension the grip is fantastic

I use a kingtuk from galco, http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterPG3.asp?P ... &GunID=509
It fits great imo and is very comfortable
not to mention its carried locally by fleetfarm and can be had in the ~50 range. I also own a crossbreed for my m&p and still prefer the KT

XD-S in 45 or 9mm, since you have an XDM in 45 already just go with that.

Question though..............

The XDs won't accept XDm magazines, but would the XDm 3.8" accept the 13-round magazines for my XDm 4.5"? I know it doesn't matter as far as the barrel is concerned, I'm thinking more about the lower receiver and the magazine well. Of course that would look kind of odd, so I'd need some sort of rubber extender to fill the metal gap between the bottom of the magazine and the bottom of the grip. I don't think I'd use a 13-round magazine in it for carrying as a backup CC gun, but for practice I would, if that's an option. If it is an option, then it's one I wouldn't have with the XDs (to use my current magazines.)

Yep, in fact I think it's the 45 that you can use both XD and XDM magazines in.

well. i do love my springfields.

in regards to carrying, i've carried the xd subcompact, xdm compact (huge upgrade), and now a few glock 19s. i wouldn't go back to either of the springfields.
