Google 5" colt commander and this pops up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt_Commander

Commander Gold Cup National Match - 5"

And then there's all the guys on 1911 forum saying colt screws the pooch often on roll marks.

Yea, I've seen others, but most guys have seen maybe a couple in their lives, I don't think it's "often" this happens though. This one definitely isn't a Commander Gold Cup National Match.

That was only the first of several references to 5" commanders. I'm on my phone with a craptacular web connection. Having Pete here would make this easy, as he'd just tell you every instance off the top of his head. :(

Yep. I decided it's not going to get sold. Rare or not, I bought it as a shooter/carry gun. Put 100 through it today, planned on giving it more of a workout but Bills north bans blazer ammo. I asked them why and he said it's because they can't pick it up and resell it. Ha! It ate up the two different types of defensive ammo I fed it to.

I've never shot a pistol more accurately than I shot this one today, it's awesome, makes it hard to sell. I'll just shoot it, keep it clean, and give it to my kid eventually. It's made it's way to a collector, me. I shoot all my guns though. I love this thing, and I don't say that about many guns :D

I don't what it is that makes this Colt so much easier for me to shoot accurately than my G17, but at 75 feet my groups are half the size with the 1911 vs. G17. Both are very acceptable, but I was hitting 3-4" group standing free hand with the Colt today at max distance at Bills...flier here and there of course.

You'll never convince me either. Detail stripping (or even field stripping for that matter), capacity, weather resistance, etc. are pretty big advantages for the plastic guns. I don't plan on changing my night stand pistol anytime soon :D

Right, because you don't need to hit what you're aiming at when you have 18 tries...

No issue getting hits with the trusty plastic, just easier to get bullseye's with the 1911. Gonna take a while practicing with this 1911 before I'll rely on it. I'm just not real comfortable with the platform yet. Glocks are awesome. :D

How do you like the 8rd mags? Thinking of ordering another one. I picked up a Sig 8rd mag at Fleet Farma and it works, had a couple failure to lock slide back on last round though. Colt 8rd mag the answer? Who makes the cats ass of reliable 1911 mags? I wish Glock made mags for 1911's, best mags ever....

Chip McCormick or Wilson Combat mags. Wilson combats seem to be the preferred ones here locally.

8 rounders. I have personal experience with the McCormicks but Badger talks highly of the Wilsons.

If I did it again, I'd buy the Wilsons.

Both have worked fine for me. The wilson followers will wear out. I tried the Tripp 7 round replacement kits (super sevens, I think) in my worn Wilson's. They run like a top and have a steel slip to engage the slide stop.

Grouse- you're welcome to borrow any of mine to see what you like.
