I've had some trigger time with a subcompact XD9 and a full sized XDM9 and they just didnt feel as solid as I'd like in my hand. Maybe since I was shooting for fun and not to evaluate a potential purchase I overlooked something. Hopefully we can figure something out soon, as I heard about a used XD45 at Bills in Circle Pines for $450. I'll PM you at some point to see what works well for you!

Thanks a ton! Your offer is very much appreciated!

Photogpat- Same! I appreciate all the support immensely!

Sounds good man. I'm here :)

Another thing to consider is that with Glock, you can't swap out the backstrap like you can on the XDm, which comes with one installed and 2 more in other sizes.

False. Gen 4s come with multiple back straps. http://us.glock.com/technology/gen4

I'd suggest taking up some of these generous offers if you're of the buy once, cry once ilk. I did the opposite. I ran out and bought an XD for my first handgun (having never shot one) only to find I prefer Glocks when it comes to striker fired guns.

There is a fellow on the board which refers to gun tourism. I like that analogy. I tend to buy mass produced wonder pistols so the idea on renting is difficult to swallow ($20 rental + $25 range ammo is almost 10% of the cost of your typical polymer striker pistol). Tourism is fun. You can always use your mistake purchase as trade fodder too.

Good luck and have fun!

I like that term "Gun Tourism"... and I didn't know that about the Gen4, good to know. Are they still made outside the USA too?

Yep...just like XD's and XDm's. ;)

And I am major gun tourist...however, I've now been bitten by the 1911 bug, and there's really no recovering after that.

I do like glocks and M&P's, though...owned an XDm and a XD...just never cared for 'em. To each their own...

That's what it's all about man. To reiterate what some have said, it's truly whatever feels best in your hands. For me it is the XDM. It just feels perfect in my hand. Sure, there are plenty others that I love to shoot. But for me, picking up an XDM feels like coming home.

Luckily there are a lot of good reliable options in your price range. Definitely try and get some range time with whatever you can before you purchase. It does get expensive renting, but I bet if you ask around here, you'll find plenty of people willing to let you try out some of their gear.

I'd also add any variant of the CZ75 to your list of guns to try out. I highly recommend them as well, and they fit in your price range.

And I don't think you can go wrong with 9mm or .45. The merits of either one's defense capability can be and has been debated forever. I'm pretty neutral in that debate. IMO get what you can afford to shoot the most of.

Happy hunting to you man.

Take a look at Kahrs. CW9 is more manageable and CM9 is easier to conceal.

EBay has a guy making awesome OWB kydex holsters for both http://www.ebay.com/sch/jeff_135/m.html ... ksid=p3686.
Did you just buy that beautiful firearm, or are you trying to sell that piece of crap?

If you've got a girlfriend or wife, it may be worth considering her when you decide. I went with the glock 19 since it was something she'd be gunning down home intruders with if necessary.

Go with what feels good. Also give them a dry fire to get a feel for the trigger.
I was dead set on a Glock as my first pistol. Didn't like the feel of it at all. Bought a Ruger because it felt right.

The Kahr pistols I've tried have a loooooooong trigger pull. Long like "holy cow when is this thing going to trip here?" My buddy has the Kahr and I have a Ruger SR9c. He said after shooting at the range, that he would have bought the Ruger instead of his Kahr had he tried them both first.

I have all kinds of makes/models pistols...it just comes down to whats comfortable to YOU.

I've been carrying my Sig P238 (.380 auto) in a Shielded Holsters IWB holster for over a year now. This spring I'm planning to change to a primary carry gun of either a CZ 75 PCR Compact 9mm or a M&P Pro 9mm. But to be honest I love the little Sig so much I'm having a hard time with the thought of changing! It's a great gun.

Annnndyyyy! Dan from the shiz.. :)

Curious why you are jumping from a sub to a full size for carry (if you went with the M&P)? Did you think about a Shield at all? I have a Shield and Pro 5" in 9mm if you ever want to try either. I'm at Bills Hudson almost weekly.

I carry a full size S&W M&P9 in a Galco King Tuk holster. Love the combo and I conceal it just fine.

Took my PTC Course with Blue Line Defense. Great Group of guys.
