Just to clarify:
Not that it matters to most, but I'm not 'against' the LCP - once it came back from Ruger it was a reliable shooter, it just lacks what the TCP provides for less money without sacrificing reliability, in my experience. I also had to put money into the LCP (13# Wolff springs for example) so that the casings would stop landing on my head and it would chamber a round more reliably.

That sucks. I've had two. Sold the blued one because the bluing wore off after extensive carry. Now I have one with the nickel slide and it still looks new after a year as my EDC. So I guess the blued finish would be the LCP's weakness. After a couple thousands rounds through the pair of them (had to, I sucked with the LCP at first) had a total of 5 malfunctions. The first 3 malfunctions (and only 3 with the first pistol) were shooting "Kypu" ammo. The other two malfunctions happened on the first range trip with the new pistol. Both were with Magtech FMJ. I haven't shot Magtech since (I try to get US made stuff when I can) and haven't had any issues. It could be the pistol was a little tight at first, or maybe a weak lot of Magtech ammo. Both pistols are well over 99% reliable.

Neither ever hiccup'd with defensive ammo.

I had a buddy get an LCP straight from the distributor with rust on the barrel though. Not cool. They took care of it quickly.

Tossing a new gun into the converstaion:

I like my smith and wesson Bodyguard 380. Intergrated laser, nice finish and a much better looking gun imo plus it has actual sights.
Well, when I see 5 weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards. That's my policy.

Thinking about a Ruger LCP, any recommendations?

I like the bodyguard over the LCP. Not a fan of the laser ( small controls). I'm not sure about availability.

I own a LCP and don't carry it much since I got a shield.
private or small grou permit classes available

I am satisfied with my LCP however, it did convince me to also purchase the LC9!! both great pocket guns.

I love my LCP, I wish everything I owned concealed as easy as it does. After you get used to the trigger, it is a dream to shoot.

Two LCP's here, both 100% reliable and comfortable for pocket or waist carry. Very simple design. I carry with Speer Gold Dots.
Keep in mind it's a bad breath distance gun, not a target gun. But it's discrete, light, and better than throwing rocks.

As you can see from this post Ranger, when it comes to small carry guns everybody likes something different.
The Ruger LCP is a great gun and I like it.
My personal choice is my KelTec PF-9.

I would suggest going to a range and renting different small guns, and get the one that feels best for you.
I can ask 50 different people on their choice of a carry gun and get 50 different answers. It's a personal choice on which gun you like the best.

I'm a little late to the party on this thread but my vote is the TCP 738.

Just bought one a few weeks ago after shooting a friends and I love it. The hold open when empty and a better trigger put it over LCP IMO

Like others have said, if you can fire them before you buy is the best way to go.

I own an LCP with the Lasermax and use it for pocket carry. Works great! havent had a malfunction with it in the few hundred rounds I've put downrange with it and its small and light enough to carry around comfortably in my pocket no matter the conditions or season of year. I enjoy using that laser as well! I looked at all the pocket .380's and also liked the TCP, thought it had a slightly better trigger and slightly better sights. But I also didnt kid myself into thinking that this was going to be a range gun or target shooting gun where great triggers and great sights are useful. The sights are small and difficult to pick up, and the triggers are long and squishy on ALL of the pocket .380's. I think all of them from any reputable manufacturer will serve you just fine, just comes down to what feels the best in your pocket and what feels the best in your palm and two fingers around that little grip!

I too like the TCP. Mine is very reliable. The slide lock is a big plus for me. Despite the minimal sights it is capable of some very tight groups at 15 yards, a way longer distance than the gun is intended for. It is my pocket gun for around the house and summertime grab and go when in minimal clothes.
