I am sending the MF gun to them. They can install this "DROP IN" kit which can be done by anyone with "HAND TOOLS" in 15 minutes. What an unmitigated piece of garbage. In fact, I don't even want the gun back. They can use it for a door stop, repository, I don't care.
The gun was designed by Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder. The kit was designed by Jose Feliciano. They may have sounded good together but the parts do not fit and the instructions are worthless unless you already know how to install the kit.
Anyone know how to do this install? Oh yeah, and the extended mag release (another drop in part once you find the little pin and spring that they don't mention needing to retain) prevents the grips from lining up with the holes so I need to get the Dremel out and modify the grip. Decorative. And I need another jar of mag polish to take the hammer marks off the frame. Can you tell I'm just a little bit upset?
What's the mod kit for? Is this for the magazine disconnect? Is it a trigger modification? What is it exactly?
If it's a magazine disconnect modification, I bought the bushing from Sam Lam which works rather well. It was only $11.00. Not only does it fix the magazine disconnect issue, it also makes the gun easier to assemble. The Ruger Mark III 2245 isn't the most fun gun to take apart and put back together again, but once you do it a few times and get things loosened up a bit, it works better - and even more so after the magazine disconnect modification. My Ruger does double-feeds (both before and after modification), no matter the type of ammo used, that's my only issue with it now. My friend's Ruger doesn't jam at all. It's a cheap date to the range, but I'd never use it for a defensive weapon unless it was a total last resort. I'll always keep it, but if anyone has any suggestions for another good .22LR pistol, I'm open. (I plan on getting a Ruger 10/22 rifle next.)
I had a friend of mine call me (he owns a Ruger Mark III 2245 as well), and he was cursing about putting it back together - even after watching videos online and my one-time training session. He'd only had it apart one time with me, before he attempted to take it apart by himself, and that was after we went to the range together and I taught him how to clean it, dissemble/reassemble it, etc. We're doing another repeat range time and lesson this weekend. He also hates the gun and now even hates Ruger for making it, swears he'll never buy another Ruger ever..... and I told him that Ruger makes fine guns, but whoever designed the Ruger Mark III 2245 has a special circle in Hell just for them. He also recently bought a .40 caliber Glock, which he took apart for the first time (by himself -- after watching some videos online), and it took him a total of 20 minutes. He said it reminded him a lot of my XDm, which also can be dis/re-assembled with ease.
