I don't claim to be a gun smith by any stretch of the imagination and I got the kit installed in my buddy and my MKIIs in about an hour total for both. The first one took a little longer and I ended up breaking a pin punch but that was my stupid fault. After the first one it wasn't bad when I understood where all the parts go. I do agree that the instructions could have been better, photocopying is cheap these days, don't scrimp on instructions.

It's a total basket case POS. Can anyone help me with this? I got the MF thing back from Dino and in order to mount the barrel I had to disassemble it again and it simply cannot be put back together, at least not by me. I'll give someone 1k primers of your choice for your time. Or whatever. I am really frustrated by this total mess. At least I didn't put the hammer to it. Not yet.

Thanks!! Let me know...willing to travel

Got pictures?

Do you just need to reassemble?

I know how you feel, they are a pain to get back together.

The problem at first was that I could not get the hammer flat and thus couldn't install the bolt. Now the bolt retainer assembly is jammed in the frame. I can't get it out because I think one of the pins has slipped out of that assembly. I don't know. I don't even want it anymore.

I am sending the MF gun to them. They can install this "DROP IN" kit which can be done by anyone with "HAND TOOLS" in 15 minutes. What an unmitigated piece of garbage. In fact, I don't even want the gun back. They can use it for a door stop, repository, I don't care.

The gun was designed by Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder. The kit was designed by Jose Feliciano. They may have sounded good together but the parts do not fit and the instructions are worthless unless you already know how to install the kit.

Anyone know how to do this install? Oh yeah, and the extended mag release (another drop in part once you find the little pin and spring that they don't mention needing to retain) prevents the grips from lining up with the holes so I need to get the Dremel out and modify the grip. Decorative. And I need another jar of mag polish to take the hammer marks off the frame. Can you tell I'm just a little bit upset?

What's the mod kit for? Is this for the magazine disconnect? Is it a trigger modification? What is it exactly?

If it's a magazine disconnect modification, I bought the bushing from Sam Lam which works rather well. It was only $11.00. Not only does it fix the magazine disconnect issue, it also makes the gun easier to assemble. The Ruger Mark III 2245 isn't the most fun gun to take apart and put back together again, but once you do it a few times and get things loosened up a bit, it works better - and even more so after the magazine disconnect modification. My Ruger does double-feeds (both before and after modification), no matter the type of ammo used, that's my only issue with it now. My friend's Ruger doesn't jam at all. It's a cheap date to the range, but I'd never use it for a defensive weapon unless it was a total last resort. I'll always keep it, but if anyone has any suggestions for another good .22LR pistol, I'm open. (I plan on getting a Ruger 10/22 rifle next.)

I had a friend of mine call me (he owns a Ruger Mark III 2245 as well), and he was cursing about putting it back together - even after watching videos online and my one-time training session. He'd only had it apart one time with me, before he attempted to take it apart by himself, and that was after we went to the range together and I taught him how to clean it, dissemble/reassemble it, etc. We're doing another repeat range time and lesson this weekend. He also hates the gun and now even hates Ruger for making it, swears he'll never buy another Ruger ever..... and I told him that Ruger makes fine guns, but whoever designed the Ruger Mark III 2245 has a special circle in Hell just for them. He also recently bought a .40 caliber Glock, which he took apart for the first time (by himself -- after watching some videos online), and it took him a total of 20 minutes. He said it reminded him a lot of my XDm, which also can be dis/re-assembled with ease.

XDM where are you doing the session? I just spend another 4 hours and I cannot get the hammer out of the way of the bolt. Well, I did once, and then removed the bolt and the hammer popped up again.

Whatever the problem is I'm sure it's fixable.

I'm no gunsmith, but I have completely disassembled my MK3 and put it back together more than a couple times.

You may need to remove the hammer pin to release it if it's that jammed against the bolt. Or figure out a way to insert a wood rod to push the hammer down and release the bolt. It's been a while since I've disassembled my Mark IIs, but I've had to do this fix before. I'm in Blaine, which is probably too far from Apple Valley, but if you want to come up here, you're welcome too. We could figure it out together. Another option would be to meet me downtown Mpls on Monday. I work there, so if you want to drop the gun off with me, I'll take it home, fix it, and then we could hook up again downtown later in the week.

Here's one of the best videos on the net for reassembly of the Mark III. http://youtu.be/nYHJm2P4kP0 Shows how the hammer causes the problems.

If the mainspring is stuck, insert a magazine and pull the trigger so that the hammer is fully uncocked. The mainspring should then slide out with a yank. Don't tip the gun up and cause the hammer to fall backwards again after you've inserted the magainze and pulled the trigger to release it.

A big Thanks to everyone for their kind advice. I DID manage to get the turkey together properly this morning in time to go to BPR and it worked fine. I removed the top part of the Majestic Arms bolt retainer kit with the allen wrench and removed the bolt for cleaning. Using a cleaning rod I needed to push the hammer down flush to get the bolt back in, but it worked and I no longer need to remove the barrel and mainspring housing for general cleaning.

XDM45 was very helpful on the phone. And I got some advice from The Rodentwoman who had bought me a book on Marital Arts (yes, Marital, not Martial) which said "If you don't know what you are doing, don't do it harder."

Now that I'm on a roll, anyone got a Rolex watch they need cleaned and lubed?

I depreciate the forum members for the advice and help.

I'm gonna devote a whole chapter in my new book to the designers of the Ruger MK series. The book is titled "Profiles in Sewage."

I'm glad my psychic powers were able to help assist you in putting it back together. I'll gladly accept just half a box of primers since I wasn't able to appear in person.
