MKIII Broken Part...

Postby Rodentman on Sat Jun 15, 2013 7:11 pm

I took my MKIII apart to clean it and found the recoil spring assembly, part # KA57, appears to be broken. I have no idea where the broken piece went. I bet the warranty on the stinking thing is 1 year because I bought it on 6-6-12. Oh well, I'll call Monday and order the part.

I bet they will send you a new one for free regardless of when you bought it. They will ask for your serial number.

Yep, I bet they will too. Ruger has the best customer service in my opinion.

They don't have warrantees, but they stand behind their products. I bought a Blackhawk .45 that needed a bit of work, I sent it in with a 45 Colt cylinder and they fixed the problem and fitted the new cylinder free of charge. I will almost never hesitate to buy a used Ruger.

Weird. I'll have to be careful with mine. Sounds like you're in good hands with Ruger.

I'll take your word that it's broken because I have absolutely no idea what an undamaged RSA for a Mk. III looks like.

And I too shall wager that Ruger will send you a replacement RSA when you call then, just because their CS is that good. I contacted them last Friday about the factory grip on my .454 Super Redhawk. The rubber shell had started to split along the mold seam at the rear of the grip, where recoil drives it into the palm of the hand. A friendly conversation with an amiable CS agent named Mark resulted in their sending me a replacement grip at no charge, despite my having purchased the gun over five years ago.

The left end of the part would be symmetrical; the bottom of that end should mirror the top. Thx for the info; I will call them tomorrow, SN in hand.

Here is what a not-so-broke one looks like.

I would be interested in your results with Ruger - as they are on my list to call one of these days about a replacement part.

Truth be told I didn't call them. I just ordered 2 of them for $7.50 each so I'll have a spare if I need it. Once something breaks once I get wary.

When I need to replace a broken part, especially when shipping costs more than the part, I usually get two of them also. Same reasoning though.

Do you have the part number and ordering info? I may buy a few just in case as well.

It's KA-57 and it fits all the MK series. It's really a nice gun, now that I can successfully re-assemble it. It's not the easiest since it's probably still pretty new and tight, but no longer is it a struggle.

Received the part today and had it installed in 2 minutes. Maybe things are loosening up. The 2 piece bolt stop kit helps alot. Just make sure the spring is lined up not blocking the hole at all, and snap the retaining bolt in, and tighten with the allen wench.
