Where to buy Century Arms (Canik55) Stingray-C

Postby gdubya on Sat Jul 20, 2013 12:16 pm

Taking my PTC class tomorow and although I am confident with my S&W 4516 as a carry gun I am interested in the Century Arms imported turkish Canik55 Stingray-C compact cz type pistol for a slightly smaller carry gun in 9mm. I really like my wife's turkish SAR K2 and this has gotten even better reviews and meets all the needs I am looking for in a potential new carry gun. 9mm, less than full size, steel frame, hammer fired DA/SA, ambidextrous controls, and double stack.

Saw them online on FF's site, but called every FF in the metro and nobody has them and when i asked if it could be ordered they said no. Wondering if any dealers on here carry Centry Arms products and might have one in stock or already on order. Century Arms site say they are backordered. http://www.centuryarms.biz/proddetail.asp?prod=HG2024-N

jgsales.com has had some of the best pricing. If you want to find local call the 800 number for century and they can tell you who has one in this area.

Have you looked at TriStar new line of Handguns made by Canik 55? I just ordered a T 120. They have several models that are CZ clones. Heard pretty good things about them also. Gallery of guns is where I ordered mine.

If you can swing the bill, this will put a much bigger smile on your face http://czcustom.com/czcompactlblkman.aspx

If you get it - please, please let me shoot it :)
Did you just buy that beautiful firearm, or are you trying to sell that piece of crap?

Phatspeed: I like the Tristars but no ambidextrous controls is a big deal for a carry gun for a semi-ambidextrous lefty like myself. I'm left eye dominant, write or paint with the left, but learned to shoot right handed as a kid. I also bat, throw, box, and shoot a basketball (mostly) right handed. Weird, right? When I focus in, I actually shoot better lefty although it still feels REALLY awkward so I am trying to do it more to gain muscle memory, but I don't want to lose the abilty to shoot right handed. This is one of the reasons I have liked 3rd gen S&W autos (and revolvers for that matter) so much. Both controls are what I want so I can go back and forth. The Stingray even has a lefty slide stop/release although I am quite used to releasing with my left index finger. Then again, I used to think I was quite comfortable racking a righty bolt action from over the top until I got my first lefty bolt action, and finally didn't have that hassle.

Gunfan: Same deal, no ambi controls on that cz compact although I am sure they could probably be added for some additional coin.

Edit: Unless somebody actually has one in stock I can handle, looks like I will be talking to RockCreek, and probably just taking the plunge and ordering one sight unseen like I did with my wife's SAR. Not sure how I reconcile suddenly starting a Turkish gun collection when I used to only own S&Ws.

Didn't realize your a lefty like me. That's why I mainly carry smith and wesson m&p pistols.

You can't do better than dealing with John and probably great price besides.

Now I am torn between this and the very similar Baby Eagle II compact which is a little bit more, but I have actually put my grubby mitts on it, and it has a slide mounted safety that is very consistent with my S&W.

I'm generally not a fan of slide mounted safeties (it's not a deal breaker), but that top pic looks like a poorly fitted rear sight on a GI 1911. :(

I like DA/SA and when I was younger, the pistols I liked that had ambi safeties were the S&Ws so this is what I am used to, unfortunately I just don't shoot it all that well relative to other pistols I've shot.

The old s&w's are nice guns. My issue with slide mounted safeties is just a personal thing. With the slide moving, there is a chance the safety could be caught going back into battery. I merely prefer that not be possible. It's obviously not a big problem - there's dozens of guns which use that location. We have an old model 59, and I sold my 4003 a year ago because I got out of .40, not because of the safety location.

I was simply mentioning that between the two options posted, they both have items I'd take issue with. I like the tanfoglio frame mounted safety in use - that IWI would get the nod if not for the poorly mated sight.

FInally laid my hands on the Stingray-C at GM in EP (Listed at almost $100 more than the dealers from this forums I was recommended) and it was pretty nice, but I felt the Baby Eagle II fit my hand a little better and had a slightly smoother DA trigger pull, so that is what I went with. Unfortunately, my NICS came back a "hold" for some reason (dunno if they were all out at lunch or something) and I didn't get to take it to the range and didn't get my "proceed" until after I couldn't pick it up so I will get it tomorrow. MIght have to sneak back to the range again tomorrow for a quick test run.
