Gun trade advise

Postby ubermench1000 on Sat Jul 20, 2013 1:46 am

A friend of mine offered me to trade a)sig 226 9mm in new condition with 2 clips(15 rd) for my Glock 23 (GEN 3)With 2/13rd clips & 1)10rd Clip Its(glock) got night sights ,3.5lbs trigger upgrade, stainless steal spring retainer (under barrel),& a plug in handel . I just bought 500+ rounds in 40 cal.My friend said he'ld buy them from me,mayby I'll just ask him to buy the equivilent in 9mm to exchange guns
My question is what should I do ? I know the sig is more valuable at a gun shop, however I 'm not going to sell it.It would be my home defense gun primarily. I Like the S/D action of the Sig,but its much heavier (34 vs 21 oz). I like the amazing amount of aftermarket clips <parts ,and cheaper prices on glock stuff, where as sig is going to have less customization options and extra clips ect... will be double to triple the price. Also I can get a lone wolf coversion barrel for $109 at Glockstore & shoot 9mm out of the Glock 23,but the sig can never shoot 40 cal .40 cal is just plain a better overall round . So there's so much to weigh. I'ld appreciate the opinions/advise of the gun community. THANKS FOR ANY HELP

Gun trade advise

Its all personal preference, and it sounds like you really like the Glock better. Keep the 23, that's what I'd do. It's a great pistol.

Erud is right on the money.

Keep the Glock - Offer him the cash value of the Glock + upgrades(so he can build his own), for the Sig. Then you'll have both!

(And I'm not a Glock fan)

I like Glocks owned many, first pistol was a glock. But, I would not hesitate trading a glock for a sig226. You get more gun for the money. Make the trade and get a used glock later.

This. If my paws were bigger, I'd own all Sigs. I like my Glocks, but there is no comparison. I have a German made 226 that is the BMW of handguns. Glocks are like a Toyota Camry. Run forever, but soulless.

That's a hard choice. But I would do the trade. A Sig P226 would be too hard for me to pass up.

If my hard learned experience is worth anything, do like Aftermath suggested and offer him the money to buy himself a Glock with the upgrades and keep both. About two years ago, I traded off two S&W 686's and I get peaved about letting them go every time I think about it (like now grrrr). You will then have two fine weapons that you won't lose money on either of them. I hope my hard learned lesson helps. You won't be sorry you have both.

A hope defense gun should be all about reliability, which means the availability of lots of aftermarket parts is not necessarily a good thing.

Don't get me started... :D

If he still wants to sell the SP2022, they're not bad little guns... just not worth as much as a P226.
