An Indian gun manufacturer has made its first gun intended to help women defend themselves against rape.

According to The Times of India, the Indian Ordnance Factory (IOF) has manufactured Nirbheek, a .32 bore lightweight revolver. The gun is India's first firearm designed for women.

It is the factory’s first handgun made of titanium alloy and weighs 500 grams.

work with a few indian guys and they say individual gun ownership there is virtually non existent. so I find it surprising that they would produce a gun for women.

The 'middle class' in India is only just coming into existence. They probably still don't care too much about the poor.

There's a whole process to get a permit to buy one too. Full physical and psych eval, plus a reason why you need it, then renew the ownership permit every three years. Also, Indian self defense laws are almost non-existent.
