Think the G40 is a no-show?

Glock intentionally skipped G40 because of all the people who ask for a "Glock 40" and mean a Glock .40&W, which usually comes back with the question "which one? 22, 23, 24, 27 or 35?" If you have to add "..or 40?" onto the end of that, it'll just confuse people because if you spend enough time in a gun shop, you realize that there are a metric crap ton of people who don't know anything about model designations and just think that you can say the caliber and people will know what you mean. It will seriously confuse the crap out of people.

The only way that Glock will make a G40 is if it's a .40S&W. In that case, the only thing left to make would be to put .40S&W in the G42 frame. However, that would not work out sequentially because if it goes off of previous patterns, the G43 should be 9mm and G44 should be either .357sig or .40S&W, depending on whether Glock decides to keep supporting the .357 platform, etc etc.

They said it when they did the press release. I don't think it was in writing, but it was mentioned verbally. To my knowledge, it's not an "official" position, but rather a backdoor explanation. As a Glock LE armorer, I've spent my share of time on the phone arguing with and yelling at Glock, as well as talking with training reps. I've heard rumors of this being debated over the years, and as far back as 2008 people were asking "what happens when you get to G40 and G45?" There's been an on-going dialog about this for years, much like how Glock leaked unofficially around 2008ish that they were going to start working on a single-stack subcompact.

My question is this- If Glock does not skip numbers, then where is the G40? Glock has never released guns in non-sequential order before, but they did it here. This should be enough proof that the G40 is not going to be developed. That is, unless they change their position. That can always happen so we can never say never.

I'm not a Glock armorer, but I am a gun dealer. What I heard is the numbers are in the oder of the patents they've got.
Like the first complete firearm they put out was the G17, their first patented firearm, then they made a FA version, got a patent for it and called it a G18. Then they wanted something a little smaller, and came out with the 19. Etc....

If this is true, their 40th patent could have been a firearm part or something which would have skipped the designation G40. Which would also mean there will never be a G40.

This is what I've heard. Not sure if it's true, but it makes sense to me and explains their "no rhyme or reason" numbering system.
