Glock intentionally skipped G40 because of all the people who ask for a "Glock 40" and mean a Glock .40&W, which usually comes back with the question "which one? 22, 23, 24, 27 or 35?" If you have to add "..or 40?" onto the end of that, it'll just confuse people because if you spend enough time in a gun shop, you realize that there are a metric crap ton of people who don't know anything about model designations and just think that you can say the caliber and people will know what you mean. It will seriously confuse the crap out of people.
The only way that Glock will make a G40 is if it's a .40S&W. In that case, the only thing left to make would be to put .40S&W in the G42 frame. However, that would not work out sequentially because if it goes off of previous patterns, the G43 should be 9mm and G44 should be either .357sig or .40S&W, depending on whether Glock decides to keep supporting the .357 platform, etc etc.
