I picked up the Ruger SR22 a few weeks back and have 400 flawless rounds through it with various brands from the Federal blue box and red box, mini mags, Win Super X, Blazer.
Fleet Farm has them for $344 and Arnzen has the Talo edition occasionally for I think $329.

Picked one up myself. Same price. About 800-900 rounds of all kinds of random ammo. Not a single hiccup no matter who was shooting it. Fun little gun.

You must never have shot a 1911-22 then. The sig has an incredibly light slide and the recoil spring is light, as long as you use high velocity rounds it'll shoot just about everything.

But anyways, guns that I know of that fit the Saturday night special law would be the gsg or sig 1911-22, pheonix arms hp22a, possibly the jimengez ja22, and the heritage rough rider with the alloy frame.

Yes- I have never shot a 1911.
I am looking for an inexpensive way to get into hobby. The Browning looks more like a Target pistol, which I really did not want to buy.
I am just looking for a Full size as my first pistol purchase.
I looked at the SR22 ($379 + Tax) and the S&W MP22 (449+tax) at FF or GM.
What I did not like, and again I am a Newbie was the size of the rear dot sights.
I really liked the sights on the SD9 VE, but that was 9mm.
The MP22 I fondled had no dots on rear sights.
Yes, I know the sights can be changed, but why buy something that I need to modify to enjoy right from the get go?
Maybe I am placing too much emphasis on the size of factory dots?

Tnx

The 1911 comment was towards another user, but check out the ruger 22/45 lite, very nice pistol. I owned an sr22 and for me it was picky about ammo and was just too small in my hands. Try to find somewhere to rent (like bills) or someone to let you try the 1911-22 by gsg or sig. They are actually pretty nice to shoot and not too expensive. The only downside to them is the finish scratches and dings very very easily and will wear quickly.

I bought a ruger mkIII target model because I wanted at least one pistol I could someday give to my son without having to worry about it, that gun is built like a tank. The p22 by walther I've heard was one of the first of that style and had a lot of issues at first, weather they are fixed or not I do not know. I also heard that the mosquito was the next to come out and fixed some of the issues. Then the sr22 came out and did pretty well except for a very small redesign of the slide and takedown piece. Take a look at the Bersa thunder 22, I'm not entirely sure how good they are but I'd love to get one and try it out myself. A very similar pistol would be the walther ppk/s 22, more money and less rounds in the mag.

But I would also recommend NOT buying a gun from Gander Mountain, they are over priced. I would much rather buy from Fleet Farm or even Bills. But check out armslist too, many dealers sell guns on there for good prices.

win_fcs if you live in the south metro area I would be more than willing to meet up at BV pistol or Gander and let you try some stuff out. I have a variety of firearms in different calibers. You can try out my Ruger SR22 if you are dead set on getting a .22 first, otherwise I have a few different 9mm, a .40 a .45, and a .38/.357.

Shoot me a PM if you are interested in taking me up on the offer and we can work something out.

If I have to buy CCI magnums to get a .22 to work it kind of defeats the purpose of owning a .22LR. I'll just buy a 9mm. Even 9mm is more available than .22LR.

I actually just gave my used savage .22LR something or other to my buddy for his birthday present. Went out and bought a .17 HMR. I also bought 500 rounds at one time. There are not a lot of places you can buy 500 rounds of .22LR

I never once put a CCI mini mag through the pistol I had. I shot Federal Automatch bulk packs and Winchester 333 packs without issue, occasionally shot remington thunderbolts also.

Can't find em, I have a couple hundred mini-mags, but I've also got the bulk packs so I just shoot bulk usually. I guess I've kinda just been saving the few CCI's I have.

Where do you shoot? I'm in Rochester as well. I have the m&p 22. I put blacked out rear sights with fiber optic front. I love it. Put same on my xdm.
